Alexander Brown

Reverend Alexander Brown entered into eternal rest on June 5, 2026, at the age of 79. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to God, family, education, and service to others.

His influence remains evident in the lives of the students he taught, the congregations he served, and the communities he helped strengthen.

Reverend Brown was born on October 25, 1946, in Eulonia, Georgia, to the late Alexander Armstrong and Annie Mae Brown. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Edward Brown, Julius Brown, Elizabeth "Betty" Brown, and Daisy Mae Brown Johnson.

He received his early education through the McIntosh County Public School System, graduating in May 1964. He continued his education at Savannah State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in June 1968. Committed to life long learning, Reverend Brown later earned a Master of Education degree with School Administration and Supervis01·'s Certification from The College of New Jersey in 1983, a

Master of Science in Bible from Cairn University in 2003, and a Master of Divinity from New

Brunswick Theological Seminary in 2019.

For forty years, Reverend Brown served in the Trenton Public School District, where he dedicated himself to helping young people learn and grow. He began his career as a

mathematics teacher at Holland Middle School, teaching there for twelve years. In 1984, he entered school administration as Assistant Principal at Grant School and later served at Trenton Central High School, where he became Vice Principal and Acting Principal. He concluded his career in education as Principal of Mott Elementary School, serving in that role for twelve years until his retirement in 2002.

While education was central to his life's work, Reverend Brown's faith guided every aspect of his service. As a longtime member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, he served in numerous capacities, including Trustee, Deacon, Church Treasurer, Bible and Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Sunday School, Financial Secretary, and Associate Minister. He was licensed to preach the Gospel on October 20, 1996, and was

ordained to the ministry on February 24, 2002, by the late Reverend T. L. Steele at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.

In January 2004, Reverend Brown accepted the call to serve as Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church in Red Bank, New Jersey. During his pastorate, a new sanctuary was completed, improvements were made to the church facilities, and ministries expanded to meet the needs of both the congregation and the surrounding community.

Reverend Brown believed that ministry extended beyond the was of the church. He established a weekly lunch program for senior citizens, encouraged evangelistic outreach throughout the Red Bank community, and helped organize support efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti.

His service also reached beyond his local congregation. Reverend Brown served as Treasurer and Vice President of the Westside Ministerial Alliance, Moderator of the Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association, Chaplain of the Westside Ministerial Alliance, participant in the Monmouth County Prison Ministry Initiative, and affiliate of the Chapin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Red Bank.

In September 2012, Reverend Brown founded the Granville Academy Program in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The after-school initiative provided students in grades four through twelve with instruction and enrichment in business, finance, science, and engineering. Through bi-weekly programming over five years, the academy encouraged and supported underrepresented students in pursuing academic achievement and opportunities in STEM-related fields.

Throughout his life, Reverend Brown was active in numerous professional, civic, fraternal, and religious organizations, including the National Association for Year-Round Education (NAYRE), New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), Trenton Administrators and Supervisors Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association, New Jersey State Law Enforcement Officers Association, the Board of Directors of the Kidsbridge Museum for Children, the NAACP, the Westside Ministerial Alliance, and the Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association.

Among the roles he cherished most were those within his family. Reverend Brown shared twenty-two years of marriage with his wife, Magnolia Brown. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Angelo Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Magnolia; his children, Michael Anthony Johnson, Robin Collette, and Alexander Jermaine Brown (Connie); his grandchildren, Michael Anthony Johnson, Jamir Brown, Alexander J. Brown, Jr., Aniya Brown,

and Jordynn Brown; his great-grandson, Tyler Aldrich, Jr. ("TJ"); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, former students, colleagues, and friends.

Reverend Brown's life reflected a deep commitment to faith, education, service, and family. Whether in the classroom, the church, or the community, he sought to help others grow and succeed. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched and in the example he set through years of faithful service.

Today we give thanks for a life well lived and a servant who answered God's call with humility, dedication, and grace.

Guided by the Holy Scripture, he lived by one of his favorite scriptures, "I can do all

things through Christ which strengthens me" (Phillippians 4:13).

Funeral service will be 11am Thursday June 18, 2026 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 150 N. Clinton Ave., Trenton, NJ 08609. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
