Alfonso Goodwyn was born March 1, 1948 to Thomas and Blanche Goodwyn on Virginian Eastern Shore town of Cheriton. The initially family relocated to Princeton, New Jersey then on to
Trenton, New Jersey where he attended local schools. He was preceded in death by both parents, Thomas Goodwyn in July 2003, and Blanche Goodwyn, July 2016. Alfonso faithfully attended and joined the Friendship Baptist Church choir for several years.
During Alfonso's early school years, he was very active in Sports programs, basketball, football, track and fields events. He received several firstplace ribbons on the Trenton High Track Team running the mile-relay. Alfonso graduated from Trenton Central High Vocational Training center as an Automobile Mechanic Apprentice in 1967. He immediately obtained employment at Princeton University Forrestal Center, and joined the New Jersey Army National Guards.
Alfonso did not let any moss grow under his feet ....!!! He continued perusing several extra activities and jobs which he mastered with ease. Photography drew his attention, so friends and others enjoyed his pictures and requested his expertise to take wedding photos and special event/occasion photos. Yes, he was very successful with any effort he put his mind to engage. Alfonso relocated from Trenton to Atlanta, Georgia to work for several notable companies, such as Kraft Food Industries (1976-78 as a Line Engineer); Jet Magazine (as a Photographer); M&M Products (Sta-Soft Products Line); and finally started K&G Home Improvements Company. Unfortunately, as the results of a brutal robbery attack, Alfonso was hospitalized for several months and lost his short-term memory. He returned to Trenton, in 2014 and assisted his Mother prior to her death.
He loved his family, and always willing to assist people whenever/wherever possible. When the Lord called, Alfonso to surrender on June 5th 2021, wonderful memories will live on, in the hearts of his daughters, Donna Rogers (granddaughters Sophiaand Aubriel, great-grandchildren Amillion, Dallas, and Princeton); Latoya Hurst (granddaughters
Kennedy Dozier, Kaleigh Dozier) of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers Dr. Reverend Thomas Goodwyn, of Yardley, Pennsylvania; Wilson Goodwyn of Woodbridge, Virginia; and a brother like first cousin Carl Foreman, of Atlanta, Georgia. & a multitude of loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many wonderful friends, such as Carolyn Little, Leroy Roberts and Timmy Richardson to mention a few.
Therefore, we rejoice now... knowing that Alfonso Goodwyn has gone home to be with our Lord to celebrate a reunion with family members and friends who made the journey before him.
Funeral service will be 12pm Friday, June 11, 2021 at Gethsemane Tabernacle, 421 W. Street, Trenton NJ 08618. Calling hour will be at 11am until the time of service. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick, NJ.
