Alton Powell, was born on July 19, 1980 in Trenton, NJ on Sweets Avenue. He was affectionately known as "Sugar Hill" in the North Ward, AP and Big Baby. He was a proud product of his community where he built lifelong relationships and left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He attended Trenton Public Schools and was a graduate of Harris School of Business. Alton developed into a man known for his authenticity, strength, and straightforward nature. Alton was honest and unapologetic. If you asked him a question, you could always expect a real answer. While his demeanor was direct, those closest to him knew that beneath it was a deeply caring and loyal heart.
He lived life on his own terms and never pretending to be anything other than who he was. His presence was powerful, his spirit unforgettable, and his love undeniable. Alton was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Joyce M. Powell; his father, Alvin "Junie" Wilkins
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Keon; his fiancée, Kisha McKinley; his brothers, Mark Powell, whom he grow up alongside and they shared an unbreakable bond, Eric Brown (Stacy), Leroy Wilkins, Perry Shaw Ill (Jennifer); sisters Toni Lacey, Crystal Lacey, Angie Wilkins, Ruthann Tarver (Timothy), Renea Whitaker, Tara, Liv and Vern; his granddaughter Kylie Shunte Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; long-time friends Dimidroff, Markque, Edward, and Christopher whom will forever carry his love and legacy.
Alton will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His laughter, honesty, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Funeral service will be 11am Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be private.
