Angela Naadira Smith passed away at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday November 20, 2022 at the age of 56. Daughter of the Kathleen Davis and the late Leon David Russell Walton Howlett.
Angela was educated by Villa Victoria-Academy. She also attended Irene Parker dance studio and was a beautiful dancer. As a child she attended Shiloh Baptist Church with her grandma Mary. She later received her associate degree in Applied Science Behavioral Health/Human Services and academic certificate in Human Services both with high honors from the Community College of Philadelphia. Angela was enthusiastic and grateful for completing her college education because it was a delayed dream that finally became a reality. She loved school and learning and thank God for the strength and courage to achieve this accomplishment and thank her granddaughter Moochie for being her motivation.
Angela worked for the State of New Jersey's Department of Community Affairs and the Department of Education and retired from the state in 2012 with 27 years of service. Angela also worked as a case manager for The Northeastern Treatment Center (The Net) of Philadelphia, whose mission is to offer support and hope to individuals and families at times of great stress in dealing with mental health, addiction treatment, foster care, residential group care, adoption, juvenile justice services and child welfare services. Angela was a dedicated employee and rarely took any time off work. She was compassionate about her work and knew all too well the challenges the clients faced because she once faced similar challenges in life. Although a Philadelphia resident, Angela was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy football fan. She loved to cook, spend time with her loved ones, and dance to house music. Angela also enjoyed writing poetry and painting in her spare time.
Angela was predeceased by her father Leon Howett; her paternal grandparents William Johnson and Marion Howlett-Hall; her maternal grandparents John and Mary Williams; her in-laws Helen and Choppy Smith; brothers Troy Howlett and Scan. John Howlett; uncle Calvin Williams; aunt Ola Williams.
