Arthur L. James Obituary

Arthur Lee James, affectionately called "Art", was born on February 10, 1965 in Princeton, NJ to the late Willie W. and Cora L. James. He was the 5th child of 9 born to this union.

Art was educated in the East Windsor School District ultimately graduating from Allentown High School in Allentown, NJ. Raised in Recording Millstone/Hightstown area, in his adult life settling down in Trenton, NJ for over the past 40 years. Throughout his life he has lived in the state of Georgia and Florida, but Trenton was always his home.

Art in his youth and as an adult was a force to be reckoned with on the baseball field. He played with Post #148 as well as other travel was best known as a player with the semi-pro team The Trenton Dodgers teams. He respectfully. Art was a man of many talents and loved children especially his nieces and nephews. He was an exquisite landscaper and Master Grill Boss. His grilling techniques were unmatched, He created his own dry rub mix and sauces with most unique names such as the "Dirty Drawls Sauce" and "Muddy Waters". When he cooked his famous ribs, he would always say, "You gotta cook em low and slow"! No one grilled like Chef Boy-Ar-T, and no one ever will. Art was a traveling man and lived life on his own terms.

At the age of 60, Art departed this life on July 19, 2025, at Serenity Hospice Care-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ.

In addition to his parents, Art was predeceased two brothers, Roger and Sidney James: an aunt, Cynthia King, and a nephew, Christian Deon James.

He is survived by four brothers: Wille (Kim) James of Hamilton, NJ, Robert Crvstal) James of Yardville, NJ Marvin (Kim) James of Pennsylvania, and Anthony (Elaine) James of Coventry, CT, two sisters, Barbara James and Patricia James both of Ewing, NJ; uncles: John B. King of Allentown, NJ. Robert King of Fieldsboro, NJ. F Fred King of West, Windsor, NJ, and Larry (Cassandra) James of Albany GA; aunts: Sadie Robinson of Silver Springs, MD. Glendetta (A.D.) Thomas of Albany GA, Ann Johnson of Westbury, NY, Susan Mae Lverlv of Virgina Beach, VA, and Runette P. Johnson of Phoenix City, AL; and a host f nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; including special friends/brothers, Richard Bel, James West II, Raymond Benjamin, Jean Severin, Tadeo Rios, Juan Torres. and Curtis Houston. 

 

Funeral service will be 11am Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
