Barbara Banks Obituary

Born in Princeton, Barbara spent her entire life devoted to her community. She received her early education at the Witherspoon School for Colored Children and graduated from Princeton High School. Barbara dedicated 25 years of service as a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service, where she was known for her hardworking spirit and warm presence.

A woman of deep faith, Barbara was a longtime member of Trinity Church in Princeton. She was also an active member of Witherspoon Lodge #178 and previously a member of the former Aaron Lodge #9, both of Princeton.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Wilson and Bessie Parago; her sister, Yvonne Groomes; her husband, Lloyd H. Banks; her sons, Jefferey W. and Gregory M. Bullock; her daughter, Toni R. Guzman; her son-in-law, Nelson G. Hightower; her granddaughter, Barrie Y. Bullock; her niece, Barrie Coy; and her nephew, Kirk Groomes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Lynn Hightower; her sister, Faithe Coy; her grandchildren, Tifinee Hendricks-Logan (Paul), Stacey Livingston, Nicole Jackson (Emanual), Shawn Crews, Nakiya Gibson, and Ashley Hightower; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her goddaughter and niece, Dawn Armstead (Charles); her nieces, Tracey Grooms, Wendy Demby (Roger), Dhana Coy; and her nephew, David Coy.

Barbara was blessed with many special friends whose love and companionship enriched her life, including Marilyn Yates, Preston Evers, Mr. and Mrs. James Mack, Reverend Joanne Epply-Schmidt, Mrs. Joanne Parker, Peggy Irving, Cheryl Johnson, Thalia Mingo, Shirley Pietrucha, Amelia Willson, Reverend Colin Leitch, Glenn Ferguson, Edward Rice, Tesha Jemmott, and Linwood Hughes.

Barbara’s legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

 

Funeral service will be 10am Friday, May 2, 2025 at Trinty Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton, NJ  08540. Calling hours will be 5-7pm Thursday, May1, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Interment will be at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, NJ.
