On July 18, 1948, Barbara J. Starr was born in Trenton, New Jerse1 to Jacob and Gloria Starr. On Jun 28, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, she departed this life to receive her eternal reward.
Barbara was a graduate of Trenton Central High School, class of 1967. From 1977 until 2007 she was employed by the Trenton Board of Education as a Secretary at Monument Elementary School. Retirement was supposed to be the next great adventure. Before long. she was back as a substitute secretary, because some people just can't quit a place that feels like home. She officially retired in 2012.
She became a member of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in 1990. During her time as a member. she served as Vice President of the Missionary Board. Church Clerk, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the choir.
She was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Go Birds! She liked planting flowers and later developed an interest in growing vegetables. She also loved spending time with family.
She is preceded in death by her mother: Gloria J. Starr; sisters: Vanessa Burgess, Debra Sims, Desiree Starr; brothers: Theodore Starr, Jimmy Rutherford; longtime friend: John Barnwell Jr.
She leaves lo cherish her memory. her children: Ivy Barnwell, iris Heads and lndra Barnwell; her grandchildren: Zania Barnwell, Romello Parler, Yamin Heads, La 'Teah Heads, La-Nya McKeller. Thomas Heads Jr.. Isaiah Fernandez and Isaac Fernandez: her father: Jacob James (Arlene) Starr Sr.: her sisters: Jacqueline Rawls, Nancy Drew, Andrea Dix (Richard), Janice Starr. Terri Jo Jenkins. Carolyn Starr, Dawn Turner (Sean), Coutney Starr, Cheree Starr, Julicia Gerber (Phillip): her brothers: Jacob James Starr Jr. (Tanya), Reginald Wright. Bernard Starr, Wesley Starr (Maritzell): special daughters: Frances Perez (Andres). Sunnetta Slaughter. Niakia Barnwell. TyKarra Barnwell: special niece: Jennifer Starr; and a host of other relatives. church family and friends.
Funeral service will be 11am Friday, July 17, 2026 at Change Church, 200 Ludlow Dr., Ewing, NJ 08638. Calling hours will be 9am until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
