Barry Hawthorne Bethea was born on November 16, 1954, in Trenton, New Jersey, to the late John Bethea Sr. and Bernice Self-Bethea. He departed this life on Saturdav, March 28, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his brother John "Bo Bethea. Jr. and his sister Sarah "Chic" Bethea
Mr. Bethea was a graduate of Trenton Central High School. He later went on to build a life rooted in dedication, family, and hard work, residing in Absecon, New Jersey for many years.
Barry was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Bethea. Their bond was one of love, strength, and unwavering commitment.
Barry, known for his warm spirit and easygoing nature, was loved by all who knew him. Family and friends will fondly 'remember his presence, his loyalty, and the way he made those around him feel valued and cared for. He built lasting connections and was especially known for the deep relationships he maintained throughout his life.
He dedicated over 20 years of service to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and pride in his work.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories, daughter Toni Housley and four sons, Eric Picott, Jermaine Picott, Barron Sutton, and Barry "BJ" Bethea Jr., severa grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also a special uncle to his nieces, holding a cherished place in their hearts. He also leaves to cherish his memory two very special friends, Danny Johnson and Scott Mozelle, whose bond with him was one of true friendship and broth- erhood and family friend Tom Hunt.
Funeral service will be 1pm Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of service. Interment will be at Colonial Memorial Park, Hamilton, NJ.
