Brenda Cheek Obituary

Celebration of Life

The light grew dim on our shining star, Brenda Voleta Cheek when she was called home on Tuesday, August, 2, 2022, at Jefferson Hospital of Cherry Hill.

Brenda began her life’s journey on November 20th, 1951, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to North Carolina & Virginia natives Ervan and Lottie Cheek. Brenda was the second born child of six and the oldest sister. She was raised in Trenton, NJ (Oak Street) where she graduated from Trenton Central High School, class of 1969. Brenda took on the role of caregiver and provider for her younger siblings after the untimely passing of their parents while also starting a family of her own.

Brenda uprooted to Camden, NJ where she would raise her boys and spend most of her adult life until moving to her final home in Pennsauken, NJ. Her quick typing ability led her to the data entry field in which she worked for several years, for Ace Mailing Service and JCI, until her retirement. Known for getting the party started, Brenda’s passion for music was evident during her days as one half of DJ Lady B and Dr. Jam productions as she famously spinned at the 813 Bar and other establishments around Trenton and Camden. Although she specialized in getting bodies moving on the dance floor, she would never shy away from cutting a rug with the best of them any chance she could. Brenda loved fashion and could put it on, she was easily the best dressed in the room. She also enjoyed trips to the casinos in Atlantic city.

Brenda was a caretaker and was always the first one there whenever someone she cared for was in need. More than her love for dancing, fashion, music or anything else was her love for her family. Her boys were her world, the bond she shared with her siblings was unbreakable, her grandkids each had a piece of her heart and shared their own special connection with her that she held dear and her nieces were like her own.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Ervan and Lottie Cheek, her husband Elbert (Ace) Jones, her brothers Samuel H. Cheek (Boupie), Andrew R. Cheek (Aray) & Bernard D. Cheek and her special daughter Neen. She leaves to forever cherish an abundance of memories, her sons Everett E. Boles of Pennsauken, NJ, Willie E. Boles (Francesca) of Camden, NJ, Tyran J. Boles of Pennsauken, NJ and Shawn D. Boles (Twiane) of Trenton, NJ along with her oldest brother Ervan S. Cheek of Ewing, NJ her only sister and best friend Valerie L. Cheek-Brown (Grover) of West Windsor, NJ, Sister-in-law Rebecca Jackson, her grandkids Tykhesia, Niama, Chantia, Jah’lil, Octavia, Willie Jr., Tyerica, T’ara, Shawn Jr., Zionna, Tyran Jr., Ashley, Kansas, Jasmine, Kayla, Erica, Jamie, Tyshone, special daughters Belinda, Laticia, Ann, Temeca & Sherri as well as a host of nieces and great grandkids.
