Carol A. Johnson

Carol Ann (Kaufman) Johnson was born in Trenton, NJ on March 10, 1944 to the late David E. and Helen Kauffman, Sr. Carol departed this life on May 13, 2026 and was called to God to her eternal resting place. Carol was raised in Lawrenceville, NJ along with her 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Carol was educated in the Trenton Public School System.

Carol was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Johnson, Sr. Their union was blessed with three children: Chad, Jason, and Ashley. Carol was a supportive, loving, partner and wife until Joseph’s passing in 2012. She was a loving and supportive mother to her bonus children: Kevin A. Kauffman (nephew), the late Roland Johnson and Joseph Johnson, Jr. Carol worked for over 40 years for the State of NJ Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles until her retirement.

Carol accepted Jesus at an early age and was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Trenton, NJ. She was a faithful member of the ALW Missionary Ministry; served as a Senior Usher - Corresponding Secretary (2024-2026); and was a member of the Usher Council of Trenton and Vicinity.

Carol developed special friendships and cherished their bonds. She enjoyed spending time with her family, acts of service, cooking, baking, reading, tending to her plants, traveling, going to casinos, and in her younger years was an avid bowler.

Carol is predeceased in death by her parents, David E. and Helen Kauffman, Sr.; husband, Joseph Johnson, Sr.; brothers, Oliver Kauffman; and David E. Kauffman, Jr.; sisters, Janet Kauffman, Joan Howard, Mary Williams, and stepson Roland Johnson; survived by her sons, Chad David Kauffman – Norfolk, VA and Jason Joseph Kauffman– Ewing, NJ; daughter, Ashley Whitney Johnson – New Castle, DE; stepson, Joseph Johnson, Jr. – Lubbock, TX; brother, Richard Kauffman (Tina) – Absecon, NJ; sisters, Dolores Smalls – Trenton, NJ and Jean Kauffman – Lawrenceville, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be 10am Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. S. Howard Woodson Jr. Way, Trenton, NJ 08618.  Calling hours will be 8am until time of service. Interment will be at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing, NJ.  

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name can be made to American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Susan G. Komen Cancer Society.
