Catherine Irving Holland departed peacefully from this life into her eternal life on Friday October 27, 2023 at her CareOne of Hamilton assisted living home, Hamilton, New Jersey She was born Catherine Irving to Charles and Columbia (Harris) Irving on March 30, 1926. She has 3 siblings
Predeceased are her parents, brother William Brent, sister, Dorothy (Brent) Murphy, sister, Rosaline Irving daughter Naomi Marie Holland.
She leaves to cherish her memory 3 sons Larry N. Irving (Daisy), Wallace .C Holland, 3rd, Kevin Green (BeryI), and daughter, Toni Cooke (Newell) Canfield; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, cousins, and many friends.
Catherine married Wallace C. Holland, Jr. of Princeton, NJ in 1948 in West Cape May. Son Wallace Holland the 3 and daughter Naomi Marie were born in West Cape May. The family moved to Princeton, NJ in 1952 and Catherine joined the Mt. Pisgah AME church. Catherine found work at Princeton Hospital and later at the Nassau Club. After several years there, she worked at the Marriott Conference Center
While at Princeton Hospital, she formed a close bond of friendship with co-worker Ms. Betty Green. Ms. Green was suddenly hospitalized with a grave illness; the two friends agreed and arranged that Catherine would raise her two children, Kevin Green and Toni Cooke, after her death.
Catherine graduated from Cape May High School. While there she learned to play the mandolin and was part of the school's band. In her youth, she was baptized at the Cape May Allen AME church. She attended church regularly and learned a great number of songs while there. Those songs of praise and of worship remained fresh in her memory as she aged into her 90's. After moving into her own home in 1963 on Theresa Street in Ewing, NJ she became a member of Ewing Covenant Presbyterian church. There she joined the choir and served on the usher board and with other groups
Catherine was a people person who cherished her family, her church, and her many friendships. Her warm smile and that joyous giggle and laughter will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Funeral service will be 11am Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Ewing Covenant Presbyterian, 100 Scotch Rd, Ewing, NJ 08628. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home.
