Charles Lester Stokes was born on February 11, 1943 to the late Charles and Evelyn Stokes of Trenton, NJ. It is with great sadness we had to announce the passing of Charles at his home in Ewing Township on Saturday 12, 2020 at the age of 77 years old.
Charles, affectionately known as Butch, received his early education within the Trenton Public School System. After graduating from Trenton Central High School, he was employed at the United States Steel Mill in Fairless Hills Pennsylvania as a Railroad Conductor, retiring after 28 years, he worked 10 years at Princeton Hospital and retiring; while employed at Rick Bus Company part-time as his health began to decline… he endured the hardship as a good soldier!
Charles was a successful entrepreneur, an outstanding artist and he enjoyed listing to soulful music. His favorite past time was traveling, fishing and enjoying time with his beloved family. In Ewing Township, he was highly respected, and known as “Mr. Stokes.” His home was an open door for family and a host of friends in need of a place to stay. He was a Brother, and longtime member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Kingdom Hall in Ewing, where he served the Lord faithfully.
Family was the pivotal essence of Brother Charles’ life. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, beloved brother, and “Uncle Butch.” Charles’ memory will be cherished, as he leaves behind children Charles Jr., Ratona, Herbert Jon and Shelby, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; proceed by his siblings Lynda and Larry, and leaves behind Francis Crosswhite, Sharon and Kharon and John Stokes; a host of nieces and nephews, an aunt and uncle, cousins, and host of beloved friends.
 Services will be 9–11am Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave, Trenton, NJ, 08618. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
