Charlie Ross Upshur

Charlie Ross Upshur was born on May 2, 1951, and peacefully departed this life on March 17, 2026. His journey through life was one marked by strength, resilience, love, and an unwavering dedication to those he held dear.

Charlie was a proud graduate of Northampton High School in Eastville, Virginia, where he began shaping the character of a man who would be known for his determination, work ethic, and quiet strength. Those early years laid the foundation for a life built on perseverance and purpose.

Answering the call to serve, Charlie proudly enlisted in the United States Army. His time in the military reflected his courage, discipline, and commitment—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. After his service, Charlie continued to build a life rooted in hard work and independence. As a self-employed professional, he became highly skilled in auto mechanics and home improvement. There was very little he couldn’t fix or build, and he took immense pride in using his hands to create, repair, and provide. Family and friends often turned to him not only for his skills but for his reliability and wisdom.

Beyond his work, Charlie was a man of presence—strong yet gentle, firm yet loving. He had a quiet way of showing love, often through his actions, his guidance, and his ability to always show up when it mattered most. His laughter, his stories, and his steady spirit will remain cherished memories for all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Virginia Lee Sturgis Upshur and Charlie Upshur; his sisters, Andrea Upshur (affectionately known as “Angel”) and Betty Jean Upshur; and his son, Emmitt Upshur. Though they are no longer here, we find comfort in knowing they welcomed him home with open arms.

Charlie leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through his family. He is survived by his siblings, Francene Upshur, Rudolph (Regina) Upshur, and Lionel (Christina) Upshur, who will continue to honor his memory.

He also leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Minyon Savage, LaToya Coleman, Jazmin Upshur, Charlie Ross Upshur, and Hayward Upshur. Through them, his spirit lives on. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and his love extended deeply to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him joy and pride.

In addition, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his presence, his kindness, and his unwavering support.

Charlie’s life was a testament to perseverance, loyalty, and love. He taught those around him the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the strength found in simply showing up for one another. Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts.

Funeral service will be 1pm Monday, March 30, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of service. Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
