Cheryl Basie Obituary

Cheryl 'Tootie' Ann Basie, 64 passed away surrounded by her family at RWJ University Hospital, in Hamilton NJ on Wednesday October 28th 2020

She was a lifelong Princetonian who spent 10 years in Cleveland, Ohio before returning back to Princeton in the late 90's. She was educated throughout the Princeton Regional School System and graduated Princeton High School class of 1974. Tootie went on to attend Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, where she majored in English Literature.

Tootie retired as a Client Service Rep. for a collections firm in 2017. After retiring, she spent time volunteering in her church and providing care for elderly family friends in Princeton. Most recently she held her favorite role as a babysitter for her youngest grandson.

She was a lifetime member of the Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon.

She is preceded in death by her parents Romona and Warren Huff.

'Tootie' is survived by her three children, Ajisa Campbell (Anthony), Ramon W. Basie (Aziza), Rachel Simpson (Jarrod); her sister and partner in crime Karen H Hart; three grandchildren, Noah A. Campbell, Nylea S. Campbell and Khalil R. Simpson; her three nieces Jennifer Hart (Brandon), Christina Duncan and Jessyca Hart (Dave); nephew Michael Duncan, best friend Karen Brooks, the ‘Birch Ave Crew’ and a host of family and friends.
