Clyde Funchess Obituary

Clyde Funchess was born in Harlem, NY on October 12, 1953. He transitioned to glory on Sunday, March 21, 2021. After moving to Trenton, NJ as a young man, Clyde attended Trenton Central High School and went on to Mercer County Community College to study Music Theory.

Clyde was affectionately known as "Toe Joe" and the "Bass Man". Music was his passion; Clyde LOVED to sing. He has sung with groups such as: The Blind Boys, lnsta Funk, Amazing 609, Grace Little and more. Clyde was also fluent in Spanish and very much a family man.

In addition to his love of music, family and his church home, Clyde also enjoyed a career in Construction with Building Laborers of New Jersey (Local 172) until he retired in 2012.

One of the things that will be missed most about Clyde is his love of cooking. You could see him at ANY family cookout, manning the grill in his sandals and socks, a white towel draped over his left shoulder and humming a tune while yelling back to the crowd that the ribs are almost done.

Next to his children and family, Clyde spoke most about the love of his church home at Corinth Baptist Church and how much he enjoyed attending. You could absolutely feel his joy when he spoke about his love for God. We absolutely know where he is now.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Funchess and Isadora Johnson; two siblings, Jean Byrd and Henry Johnson; and a friend, Laverne Davis.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Carla Mims, Kakeya Floyd, Clyde Floyd (Bre'Anna), and Isadora Williams; stepdaughter, Ronisha Davis; his grandchildren, Shaquana, Brooklynn, Kori, Kayla, Germany, Shaquan, Latoya, Shatoria, Shateanna, Michael, Denzel, Clyde Jr., Cairo, Cainan and Ronnique; his great-grandchildren, Airis and Bronx; his sisters, Dori Ann Kelly, Sylvia Howard, Mary Lloyd, and Stella Simmons (Willie); his brothers, Adell Johnson (Loretta), and Jacob Funchess; his favorite cousins, Eric and Lisa Adams; his special friends, Carol Collins and Norman Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 11-12pm Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Corinth Baptist Church, 31 Hawthorne Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Interment will be at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing, NJ. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
