Daniel Hicks Obituary

Daniel Hicks, 78, passed away on January 1, 2022 at Capital Health-Hopewell Campus in Pennington, NJ. Daniel was born March 9, 1943 in Camilla, GA, to the late Bessie Lee Wimberley and Henry Fluellen.

Dan, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a resident of Trenton, NJ for over 65 years. He was formerly employed by Labor Union # 369 which is now Local #77, as a Shop Stewart in Trenton, NJ. He retired after 35 years of dedicated service. Dan was given a gold card, which means no more paying dues after paying his dues for 50 years.

Dan married Shirley Bland Hicks on October 12, 1991 at Beauty Grove Primitive Baptist Church. They recently celebrated 30 years of marriage. Shirley was the love of his life. Dan gave his life to Christ in November of 1991. Dan was a member of Beauty Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where he sang with the Male Chorus.

Dan was a hard worker. He made sure his family wanted for nothing. He was a selfless, always giving and witty man. He loved gospel music and enjoyed going to the casino. He also liked to cook especially ribs and turkey wings. Every day Dan faithfully would talk to his sister-in-law, Anna Mae Ingram; and his cousin, Ruth Mae Brown in Georgia. He truly loved all of his family and took care of them all.

In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by one brother, Henry Fluellen, Jr.; and his in-laws, Clifford and Eunice McKinnon.

He leaves to forever cherish his memories: his loving wife, Shirley Hicks; four daughters: Sherry Wimberley of Pompano Beach, FL, Lisa Jackson (Curvis) Fort Lauderdale of FL, Lisa Easley and Jamila Bland both of Trenton, NJ; one son, Robert Bland (Rachel) Burlington, NJ; his grandchildren: Natesa, Kaylah, Jasmyne, Jordyne Bland, Jaden Bland Tucker, Jamiel Bland, Lashonda Thomas (Jason), Latoya Landers, Toushika, Denita, and Britney; one great grandson, Levi Logan Bland; 11 additional great-grandchildren; five brothers: Jimmy, Andrew, Arthur, Curtis and Ellis Wimberly all of Camilla, GA; three sisters: Betty Jean Dewberry of Albany, GA, Mary Hurst of Camilla, GA, and Diane Tate Fuellen of Florida; a special niece, Eva Gilbert; and a special great niece, Ziona Whitfield; and a host other relatives and friends.

The family of Daniel Hicks would like to take this opportunity to extend their sincere appreciation for the many kind expressions of sympathy extended to them during their hour of bereavement. A special thanks to Marie Vereen, Barbara Counts, Bridgett Ford and Family, Karen Clark Jackson, Mercer County Education Association, Mercer County Retirees of Education Association, and Capital Health Regional Staff. May God forever bless you and keep each one of you in His tender loving care.
