David Williams of Ewing, NJ transitioned peacefully on September 2, 2020 at the age of 77. David, the son of Israel Sr. and Josephine Williams, was born on August 27,1943 in Burke County, Georgia. He attended school in Burke County, GA. David moved to Trenton in 1962 at the age of 19, after his brother, Israel Jr. moved to Trenton. David was employed as a machinist at Lehigh Rubber Company in Morrisville, PA where he retired after 46 years of service. He met his wife Willie Mae Buckner on the train while traveling home to Georgia. They married on March 21, 1965. From this union they had four children: Sonya, Gary, Kelly and Melanie.
David and Willie Mae moved to Ewing in 1968. Their lives were filled with love from family and friends. Their Browning Avenue home was a hub of activity. David loved to entertain family and friends. He was a self-proclaimed “grill master” when hosting cookouts. These were the times he and Willie Mae loved the most! Friends and family agree that David was hardworking, easy-going and generous with helping other. He was “Johnny-on-the-Spot” whenever anyone needed him! David loved watching football and basketball games- especially basketball! He attended his sons, Gary and Kelly basketball games through CYO, Ewing Recreation, high school and when Kelly played at Trenton State College. When Kelly coached at Mercer County Community College and The College of New Jersey, David was always in the stands. His love for the game made him a humorous “courtside coach” who called out at players during the game. It didn’t matter if it was a pickup game at home or in a gym, he was good for giving out plays and instructions! In his spare time, David loved going to Columbus and Englishtown flea markets. He had a little side business where he cut lawns. He enjoyed travelling by train to visit his oldest daughter Sally and his siblings in Georgia during the summer and Thanksgiving. David stayed true to his southern roots by maintaining a garden of collard and mustard greens, tomatoes and peppers at home. Once he retired, he loved watching “ Gunsmoke”, “Wagon Train” ,“Jerry Springer” and “ Judge Judy”.
David enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren who called him “Pop-pop”.
