Della Elizabeth Ingram Starr Davis was born April 7, 1929 to the late Floyd and Alice Starr-Ingram in Trenton, NJ. She departed this life on Sunday, February I, 2026. Della is predeceased by her husband Orance Davis and god-grandson Jamal Laramore.
Della started working at Ridger College and later moved to Catholic Diocese in 1974. She worked as a Nurse’s Assistant until she retired in 1994. Della, affectionately known as
Betty; ·Mom; •Auntie; and •Aunt· received Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Popular Spring Baptist Church in Rockingham, NC. She moved to Jersey City, NJ in 1946. Della then moved to Trenton, NJ where she joined Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Samuel M. Bagley.
Della’s favorite color is Pink. She liked to travel, cook and eat. She was a faithful member ofGalilee Baptist Church. She was also an active member of the Senior Choir, Gospel Pearls, Bus Committee, and Mothers Board. Della was a foster mother to many and a mothers advocate for many school aged children. She was also an active member of her North 25 community family. Even today, one of her children John Day says she makes the most delicious and best ever tasting sloppy Joe's and he would ask for them every single day. When she was not working in her spare time, she would spend her time in relaxation by embroidering, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. At the doctors office when they would ask her, ·How is your appetite?" She would say, ·There is nothing wrong with my mouth:
In 1946, Della found out she had a blood brother. They met, were quickly attached, and have been together like ·Peas in a Pod· ever since.
Della leaves to cherish her previous memories a sister, a brother Jacob James Starr, Sr. (Arlene) of Loganville, GA. a goddaughter Edith Laramore of Hamilton, NJ. a special close niece and caregiver Cynthia Holmes (Donald) of Ewing, NJ, a loving niece and nephew Barbara Starr and Jacob Starr, Jr. (Tannya) both of Trenton, NJ, three besties Clara Sampson of Trenton, NJ, Dorothy Williams of Lumberton, NJ, and Rebecca Moye of Ewing, NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 12pm Friday, February 13, 2026 at Galilee Baptist Church, 440 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Trenton, NJ 08618. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
