Derrick Franklin Sanders departed this life on Thursday, June 1, 2023. He was 57 years old. Rick, as he was known to his family, was born in Trenton, NJ on February 5, 1966, to Louise Sanders (Williams) and Ronald Wade. He was raised by his doting mother and loving dad, David Munn.
Rick was educated by the Mercer County Special Services School District. As an adult he attended the Raritan Valley Workshop and most recently, for many years, Rick was employed and attended the day program at the Arc Mercer, where he enjoyed the independence and social opportunities provided by the program.
Although he was her oldest son, Rick was his mom’s baby, and he never left her side. He was an awesome brother who genuinely loved and was protective of his sisters and brothers. He was most happy during family gatherings when his siblings, nieces and nephews came to visit but was also happy when they left (LOL); so that he and his mom could go back to their normal, peaceful routine.
Rick was the shining light in his family; a gentle giant, he was smart, kind, and helpful, pitching in around the house by maintaining the kitchen and making sure the trash and recycling was curbside on collection days. But he was best known as the “mailman!” It was Rick’s job to get the mail from the mailbox and distribute it. The family knew not to get in between Rick and the mail!
Rick was preceded in death by his loving mother Louise Williams, father, Ronald Wade, grandparents Ella and Clinton Sanders, Mae and David (DC) Munn, stepfather Jimmie Williams, brother Douglas Munn, niece Amber Branch, brother in-law Leo Drayton and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He will be deeply missed by his loving dad, David C. Munn (Margaret), his siblings Rhonda Deneen Drayton, David C. Munn (Shannon), Davina N. Brittingham, Germond Robinson, (Mary), Danielle Munn-Bradley, Shantel Myers, Lynette Carter (Bryan), Ronald Wade, Eugene Wade and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his Arc community who loved him dearly.
Funeral service will be 5pm Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618 . Calling hours will be 4pm until the time of service. Interment will be private.
