Dorothy Ann Sampson passed into the Lord's embrace on September 7, 2025, at the age of 69. She was born at Stewart-Webster Hospital in Richland, Gorgia, on December 17, 1955, to the late James and Rethema Dyous.
After graduating from Webster County High School, this true Georgia Peach earned her diploma in nursing from Mercer County Vocational School on January 21, 1987. Just one month before welcoming her third child, she passed her Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. Dorothy devoted 33 years of service to Trenton Psychiatric Hospital and New Lisbon Developmental Center, both behavioral health facilities in New Jersey. Following her retirement in 2020, she cherished her time tending to her garden, cooking, joining in weekly prayer with her church family, and, most of all, being with her beloved grandchildren.
Dorothy will be remembered for her loving spirit, quick wit, joyful sense of humor, steadfast faith, and her lifelong dedication to caring for others.
She is survived by her children, Sonia Sampson, Michael Sampson, and Tara Greenlee; her grandchildren, Shayla Jones, Jalen Sampson, and Royce L.A Greenlee; and her siblings, Ms. Bennie Brown, Mr. George Wright, Mr. Willie E. Dyous, Dr. Shelann Dycus Clapp, Ms. Lee Nora Shoudt, and Mr. Auguster Dyous. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mrs. Janie Hilton, Mr. Charlie Dycus, and Mr. Robert Lee Dyous.
Dorothy will be deeply missed. May her memory a blessing and an example to all who loved her.
Funeral service will be 11am Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Bethel United Holy Church, 221 Homan Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
