Edith Sutphin “Sissy” Obituary Edith Mae “Sissy” Sutphin April 30, 1934 – March 17, 2026

Edith Mae “Sissy” Sutphin was born on April 30, 1934, at Mercer Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey, to Helen Skillman.

She was educated in the Trenton Public School system and graduated from Trenton High School. Edith was a woman of strong faith and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She later received watch care from Jerusalem Missionary Church in Savannah, Georgia, and Mount Zion Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas.

Edith proudly served her country in the United States Air Force, enlisting in May 1957. She rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and earned numerous decorations throughout her distinguished career. After 30 years of honorable service, she retired and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1991.

Following her military service, Edith continued her dedication as a civil servant at McGuire Air Force Base for over 20 years before retiring.

In her later years, she fully embraced her most treasured role—being “Aunt Sis,” a title given with love by her nieces, nephews, and their friends. She was extremely excited to spend her golden years living in El Paso, TX feeling a connection to the “old” Wild Wild West Cowboy shows she enjoyed so much.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Skillman; her brothers, William Sutphin, Robert Sutphin, Norman Sutphin, Howard Sutphin, and Charles Sutphin; and her sisters, Elizabeth Harris, Gertrude Winners, and Nedda Evans.

Edith leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Berta Helen Clark, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Aunt Sis will be remembered for her strength, her service, and the love she gave so freely—her presence a blessing, her memory a treasure.

Funeral service will be 11am Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1140 Greenwood Ave., Trenton NJ 08609. Calling hour will be 10am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
