Edna Melcelene Gooden, better known as "Mommy," was bom on January 22. 1936 in Nassatd3ahamas to Melchoir and Dulcina Francis. She later moved to Bimini, Bahamas, where she was raised by her beloved Auntie Iva and received her education.
In her early adult years, Edna worked as a seamstress at a tourist shop and later managed a pharmacy in Nassau.
It was at a cruise ship port that she met the love of her life. Morais "Roy· Gooden. Roy proposed to her at the historic Queen's Staircase in Nassau. and they were married on May 20, 1957. Soon after, they moved to Trenton, New Jersey. where Edna lived for 63 years. Together, she and Roy built a loving home and raised three beautiful children: Sarina, Eloy, and Morais Jr.
Edna was known for her vibrant spirit, love of family, and zest for life. She enjoyed spending quality time with her loved ones, listening to music. dancing, and bringing joy to any gathering-she was truly the life of the party. In her spare time, she loved sewing, cooking, playing the lottery, and visiting the casino. She was an excellent seamstress, creating dresses, doing alterations, and even care ring meals. Her door was always open, and anyone who visited her home was met with a warm welcome. a plate of delicious homemade Caribbean food, a drink. and lively conversation.
Edna was predeceased by her parents, Mel choir and Dulcina Francis; siblings Delroe Lecky. Delores Ingraham, Christopher Francis Sr., Evangeline McGill, Raleigh Francis Sr., and Alvery "Audrey" Smith: and her granddaughter Arielle Gooden.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her last living sibling, Florinda Smith; her children Sarina Gooden-Teel, Eloy Gooden (Pamela), and Morais Gooden Jr. (Kay); her grandchildren Ryan Teel, Quashan Gooden (Fatimah), Daeshan Gooden, Terrence Gooden, and Beyshan Brown; and her great-grandchildren Quashan Gooden Jr., Qµazir Gooden, Qualil Gooden, Beyshan Brown Jr., Zaire Brown, and Kumal Brown. She is also survived by her close cousin Grace Douglas, best friend Florinda Woodside, godson Leslie Coleman Darville, special niece Garnell Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Funeral service will be 12pm Friday, August 29, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at Colonial Menorial Park, Hamilton, NJ..
