Edward Schanck Obituary

God answered Edward's desire to be at peace and pain free on Saturday afternoon June 20, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family. Resting in the arms of his heavenly Father, Eddie is united with his beloved family and friends in eternity.

Edward’s earthly journey began with his birth on August 31, 1938, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was the third child born to Augusta and Roberta Helen Schanck. The Schanck Family later migrated to Jobstown, New Jersey where Eddie resided during his early years. Eddie had to drop out of school to help support his family while his father recovered from a tragic car accident. Eddie’s job was working on a farm. It was extremely hard work, but Eddie loved what he was doing. His great work ethics, energy, dependability, and ability to get jobs done well made it easy for him to find work. Edward was employed by Teamsters Union Local No. 115. Later Eddie began his employment with the Hamilton Township Board of Education and retired after many years of dedicated service.

On May 26, 1962 Eddie married the love of his life Juanita McGee from White City (Hamilton Township, New Jersey). Not only did they see eye to eye on everything, but their personalities complimented each other. The two soul mates resided in Hamilton Township and were blessed with three daughters Anita, Lisa, and Gina. Eddie's love for family and great sense of humor made many happy memories. He, Juanita and the girls attended Radney Family Reunions together.

Eddie who worshiped at Lighthouse Outreach Center of Trenton, New Jersey, taught us many lessons in the way he lived his life. He found much joy in the simple things in life; working on cars, going house to house fixing things for the neighbors, having backyard cookouts, going to Columbus Market, and hanging out at Bob Hopes Auto Repair.

Many young people found Eddie approachable and easy to talk to. They looked to him for fatherly advice and friendship. They called him PopPop, and their bond existed for years. Eddie was like a second father to Alfreda Reed and Frederick Williams, Sr.

Eddie never sought fame or glory, however his light shines on through his fond memories of him and the legacy he left behind. His quiet demeanor and wise words spoke to the hearts of those who patiently listened. Family and friends are most grateful for Eddie's life. They are better people because of knowing him. He was truly loved, and he knew this.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Juanita McGee Schanck, two grandsons Aaron Lewis and Maurice D. Schanck, two sisters, Roberta Helen Walker and Madeline Schanck; three brothers William Schanck, Randolph Schanck, and Augusta Schanck and one sister-in-law, Audrey Schanck and, Jacki Anthony to whom he was a father figure.

He leaves to cherish his memories: three daughters Anita Schanck of Bear, Delaware, Lisa Lewis (Roger)of Hamilton Township, and Gina Schanck of Bordentown, New Jersey; one brother Donald Schanck (Sarah) of Trenton, New Jersey; two sisters Mary Leverett (Robert) of Browns Mills, New Jersey, and Jessie Schanck of Fort Collins, Colorado; one sister-in-law Mary E. McGee Holmes of Hamilton Township, New Jersey; five grandchildren Crystal Bisard (Robert), Frederick Williams, Jr., and Asia Williams, Robert Schanck, and Danielle Lewis; seventeen great-grandchildren; one godson Norris Grandberry; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friend Spencer Cunningham.
