Mother Esther Irene Harris-Patterson was born on August 2, 1929, in Bordentown, NJ, to the late Charles A. Harris Sr. and Lottie Mae Dillard-Harris. On Friday, February 8, 2025, she closed her
eyes and journeyed to be with God.
Esther spent her life in Trenton, NJ, and was educated in the public school system. She was the seventh child of a family of ten children. Along with her nine siblings, she was introduced to God
under the leadership of Minister Charles A. Harris Sr. and R.N. Jones, former pastors of the Trenton Church of Christ (TCOC). She remained a devoted member ofTCOC under the leadership of Elder Cornelius Morrow and, most recently, Elder Willie Shy. Esther accepted Christ in her life at an early age and remained a faithful member of the Trenton Church of Christ.
Esther was employed by Tedco Daycare and Circle F f6r many years. When her mother became ill, she left her job to provide care until her mother's passing. She sang with the TCOC senior choir and served on the Nurses unit. She played the piano by ear and found great joy in singing with her beloved family. She also loved going on bus trips, volunteering at the soup kitchen, and staying
active.Known for her outspoken and sassy personality, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Patterson; five sisters, Elizabeth Harris, Alice Jacobs, Louise Lane, Willa Mae Nettles, and Lillie Mae Harris; and
three brothers, William Harris, Courtland Harris, and Charles Harris Jr.
She was survived by three daughters, Irene Harris-Hassell (Elder Abraham Hassell), Vanessa Patterson, ?nd Patricia Patterson-Williams (Elder Bobby D. Williams); six grandchildren, Brion
Patterson, Kyra Patterson-Parker (Oliver Parker), Kahisha Patterson-Roldan (Brian Roldan), Terrance Patterson, Tyrique Patterson, and Latoya Patterson-Spencer (Robert Spencer); five great-grandchildren, Latayja Patterson, Montaea Patterson, Kamaree Parker, Taylor Spencer, and Nehemiah Roldan; her sister, Katherine Cook; and an expansive circle relatives and friends who will forever cherish her memories.
Funeral service will 11am Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing, NJ.
