Obituary of Ethel M. Hopkins April 8, 1923 to December 1, 2023
Ethel Hopkins was Born April 8, 1923, in Quincy, Florida to the union of her parents George Robinson and Agnes Baldwin-Robinson. She was converted at an early age and joined St. Matthew Primitive Baptist Church. She received her early education in Quincy, Florida and continued her education at Florida A&M and Bethune Cookman College. She then went to work in the public school system in Gadsden County, FL. In 1944 she decided to move north to New Jersey, seeking a better standard of living. She was employed by Pollock Company, working in Public Relations where she met and married Wesley T, Hopkins Sr. To this union two children were born. Ethel was a very loving mother, had a strong belief in GOD and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She took time off from her employment in 1946 to begin raising her children. In 1947 she joined the Union Baptist Church under the auspices of Pastor Reverend Grayson and remained a member. She entered her children in Christian bible studies, art, reading, writing and math. In 1953 she returned to the work force being hired by General Motors Ternstedt Division in Trenton, NJ where she worked for 37 years. While employed there, she attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology, (formerly known as the Newark College of Engineering) for training in Quality Control. Ethel was always supportive of her parents, siblings, children, nieces, and nephews. She assisted her children financially in their academic competencies by having them enrolled in summer schools and colleges.
Surviving relatives are her son George W. Hopkins, nieces Jacqueline Washington, Panama City, FL, Ethelyn Robinson-Cunningham, Quincy, FL, Nellie R. Pidgeon, NJ, Violet Walton, NJ, and nephew Jimmy Robinson, Atlanta, GA.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, her five siblings: Arthur Robinson, Willie L. Robinson Sr., Louella Washington, Gertrude Griffin and Olivia J. Robinson; Wesley T. Hopkins Sr., her eldest son Wesley T. Hopkins Jr.; nephews Willie L. Robinson Jr. Quincy, FL, and George Arthur Robinson, Quincy, FL, Clyde Hopkins, NJ, Walter Hopkins, NJ, and Sherwood Hopkins, NJ, and nieces Helen Ransburg, NJ, Madelin Jackson, NJ, Marjorie Corsey, NJ, Carolyn Morris, PA., Doris Levine, NJ, Marie Breeden, NJ.
Services will be held at Hughes Funeral home Monday December 11, 2023.The Viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00AM. The Funeral will commence at 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon.
