Evalena Rhodie was born on May 12, 1954, in Lumberton, North Carolina. She was a strong, caring, and loving, woman whose generosity and devotion to family touched everyone who knew her. She had a giving heart, always willing to help others and put the needs of her loved ones before her own. Her presence brought comfort to those around her, and she often made family and friends' laugh simply by being herself.
Evalena graduated from Trenton Central High School and went on to attend The College of New Jersey. She dedicated more than 25 years of her life to working in corrections, serving with strength, professionalism, and compassion. She was also a faithful member of Change Church in Ewing, New Jersey, where her faith remained an important part of her life.
She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, spending time with family, and sharing good food- especially chopped barbecue. She treasured making memories with those she loved and never missed an opportunity to bring family together.
Above all, Evalena was a devoted mother, grandmother, family member, and friend Her love, strength, faith, and kindness will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Evalena was preceded in death by her father Frank Rhodie; her mother, Avis Lee Rhodie; her brother, William Rhodie; and her sisters, Catherine Smith, Glenda Rhodie Betsey Leak, and Barbara Jean Rhodie.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Bryant Rhodie; her daughter, Nicole Cordero; her brother, Frank Rhodiè and his wife,' Sheila Rhodie; her sisters, Frances Sinclair of Paterson, New Jersey, and Odessa Tatum and her husband, Bill.' She also eaves six beloved grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved and cared for as her own, as well as many dear friends and other relatives.
Funeral service will be 12pm Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Change Church, 200 Ludlow Dr., Ewing, NJ 08638. Calling hours will be 10am until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Colonial Memorial Park, Hamilton, NJ.
