Gaynell Johnson Obituary

Gaynell Johnson was  born on July 28, 1960 to the late Carolyn Jennings Davis and Samuel Earl Jennings in Danvill Virginia. In the comfort of her home, she peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. 

Gaynell was raised in Danville, Virginia and attended Danville Public School systems, Gaynell relocated to Trenton New  Jersey in 1983. Gaynell formerly worked in Fort Dix at the Army base and at various Trenton Public Schools a cook. 

Gaynell was an awesome   cook and an absolute comedian without even trying. She was known to everyone as "Gab" except her nephew Shilleem;  to him she was Aunt Great She was  definitely loved by her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers. She became the Matriarch of her family and was instrumental in keeping the family together.                                        k

Gaynell lived over 30 years in the Wilbur Section of Trenton. She raised her children and grandchildren in the Section. On a nice summer day, Gaynell could be seen walling through the neighborhood  with her sisters or her daughters. Most Saturdays you could always count on Gad for a nice soul food dinner It wasn't nothing to find Gate on a dance floor with her nose and lips tooted in the air while she was dancing. 

Predeceased by her mother, Carolyn Jennings Davis; her maternal grandparents, Lucille & Junius Conway, paternal grandparents, Mary and Westly Jennings; aunts, Cecil and Viader Conway; uncle, Curtis Conway; her nephew, Shi'fleem  Young  and her niece/goddaughter, Shanicka Leonard. 

Gaynell leaves to cherish with loving memories, her husband, Issac Johnson. Her legacy will continue with her daughters, Erica, LiTonya, Letesh, and Issanique; her sons; Gary, Jerome, Ricky, Anthony, Ernest, NaQuan; her 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann, Jualita, Latanya. and Genae (Andre), Rosalind, Catherine; brothel Samuel  (Rosanna), Michael, Thurman,  Lawrence, Sam; aunt, Sheila, Joann (Dilly), Irene (Thomas), Diane, and her favorite aunt who was more like sister, Jeanette (Richard) and a special aunt who helped raise her, Elder Barabara Graves, 50 nieces and nephews; her godchildren, Donte, Anthony, Nastalia, and Zy'Kir; her bestfriends, Sandra, Sheila, Shirley and Lea. She also leaves with many years of love, laughter, memories, a host of cousins, family and 
friends. 

 

Funeral service will be 12pm Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 735 E. State St., Trenton, NJ 08609. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at Colonial Memorial Park Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
