George Chew, Jr. Obituary

George William Chew Jr., 91 of Trenton NJ departed this life on Monday September 01, 2025 at Capital Health Hopewell and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on Friday August 29, 2025 while at the Capital Health Hopewell Campus before going into hospice care. 

 George was born at home on July 29, 1934 and raised in Hightstown NJ to late Jessie Walker and the late George Chew Sr.  He was educated in the Hightstown School District during his school years and while in high school was considered one of Hightstown’s greatest baseball player.  George married the late Lubina Mae Tramel and they later became residents of       Trenton NJ.        

Mr. Chew was employed by Milner Lumber for over 30 years and faithfully went to work each day until his retirement. He served as a private in the Korean War.  “Pop Pop” as he was affectionately called was also known as “Georgie Boy, Mr. Chew, Jab, Chew/Chewy and Georgie Peorgie”.  

His activities/hobbies included watching General Hospital, playing spades and pinochle, pokeno, reading and a wiz at math. His favorite past time was watching a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game or a Philadelphia Phillies baseball game. But most of all, his favorite past time was the love of being a Philadelphia Eagles NFL die-hard fan. But his most cherished past time was attending the NTLL games to cheer on his grand kids, etc. The phrase that was always said, “It’s not baseball until Mr. Chew showed up”.   

George was predeceased by his wife Lubina Chew; parents George and Jessie Chew; brother Wesley Chew; grandsons William Chew and Ronald Jones Jr; son in law Ronald Jones Sr and a special friend Marie Kidd.    

George “Pop Pop” leaves to cherish his loving memories and legacy his four daughters Terry (Odell) Smith, Cindy Jones, Georgette (Raymond) Porter Sr. and Patsy Chew (Joe Brumby Sr); six bonus daughters Joy McCollum-Thomas, Sondra Coleman, Terri Bailey McNeil, Loretta Thomas, Patricia and Sharmaine Kidd; eleven grandchildren Ronette Chew, Sonja (Bruce) Eccles, Terrence Chew, Steven Jones, Adell Smith, Kerry Smith (Howard), Odell Smith Jr, Deon (Shawniece) Chew, Raynette (Akili) Brown, Marques Keith Sr and Raymond Porter Jr; five special grandchildren Dayvonne, Britt-lee, Shyann, Donnell and Monea Kidd; forty great grands; seven special great grands; sixteen great great grands; one brother in law Shed (Thomasine) Dawson; two sisters in law Rachael Ford and Joyce Ann Condry; six special nieces/nephews Wesley Chew Jr, Mark Chew, Stacey Chew, Chery-Jamison, Tonya Rodgers and Michael Harper; his neighbors at Park Place Apartments, a numerous host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.   

 

Funeral service will be 11am Friday, September 12, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
