George Nolan Spells, Jr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and a member of the Gamma Nu chapter of the Alpha Phi Fraternity passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 15, 2025, after fighting a long illness. A pensive man who possessed intellect, warmth, and Quiet strength, George lived a marked by dedication to education, career excellence, and love for his family.
Born and raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Reverend George N. Spells, Sr. and Queenie Kirkland Spells, George was educated in the Harrisburg City School District and graduated from the former William Penn High School. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Penn State University, where his lifelong passion for Nittany Lions football began. Later he further cemented his dedication to education by earning his MBA from Rutgers University.
George enjoyed a distinguished career working with several prominent companies, including Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Revlon, and Johnson & Johnson, before finishing his professional journey at the State of New Jersey, Department of Transportation. He was respected for his sharp mind, calm leadership, and integrity.
George found joy in the simple pleasures of life--watching Penn State football, hitting the golf course, driving his luxury cars, his Alpha Phi Alpha brotherhood and being surrounded by the laughter of his granddaughters. Above all, George loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Spells, his children: Tania Spells Pearson and her daughters, Sydney, Lauren, and Lyndsey; Kyle Spells and his wife Nadine and their daughters, Avery and Peyton; and Corey Spells and his wife Tamiko and their daughters, Saya and Sachi. His granddaughters brought him endless joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. George is also survived by his younger siblings, Gregory Spells, Sr. Stella, Charmaine Spells, and Tamara Spells, as well as his aunt, Faye Kirkland, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and' friends in all who knew him. Coorge will be deeply missed, but the lessons he taught will live on.
Funeral service will be 12pm Monday, July 28, 2025 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. S. Howard Woodson Jr Way, Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ
