Gussie Mae Cogdell was born on Wednesday, October 27,1937 in Loris, South Carolina to Charlie Watson and Gussie Graham.
As a child she attended church at Mount Rona Church in Loris and after relocating to New Jersey she attended El Bethel Baptist Church in Trenton.
She was educated at Loris Training School in South Carolina. She was employed in Housekeeping in Princeton for years after relocating here from South Carolina. She worked for the Division of Youth and Family Services until they were privatized in 1994, she also worked as a cook for Mill Hill Childcare until her retirement.
She was predeceased by James Watson (Pearl), Letha Grate (Isaac), Charlie B. Watson (Eileen), Frank Watson (Bessie), Howard Watson (Mattie), Herman Watson (Horie), Mable Edge (James), Myrtle Patrick (Leon), Florella Sumpter (Willie), John Watson (Edna), Charlie Mack Watson, and Gussie Graham.
Gussie’s memory will be cherished and forever remembered by her granddaughter Shamarr Hemingway; her great granddaughter Makayla Hemingway; her great grandson LaKori A. Rouzard Jr.; her great-great grandson Alijah Gleaton Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
