On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, our cherished Harriett Reba McKenzie passed away at 71 years old at home in Sicklerville, NJ, surrounded by her loved ones. Harriett was born on May 27, 1950, in Oak Hill, FL to the late Mary Helen Woods-Rutledge and Ernest Rutledge, Sr.
She moved to Trenton, NJ, at the age of10 and attended the NJ public school system. She graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1968. Afterward, she worked as a postal clerk for the US Postal Service, where she was a devoted and valued employee for over 40 years.
Harriett was always known as the punctual one, and the food better "be ready" kind of person. She enjoyed line dancing, traveling, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family. You always, knew how much she loved you when she would affectionately call you "fat head, honey, sweetie, baldy," or told you to act like you know.
In addition to her parents, Harriett was predeceased by her great-niece, Turquoise Williams; two sisters, Deborah and Wilma Rutledge; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Griffin and Jack Carey; and ex-spouse, Hayward McKenzie, Jr.
The loss of Harriett will be felt and remembered forever by her children, Tamiko Watson (Eli) and Kareem McKenzie; grandchildren, Tamesa McKenzie, Kahlil, Najee, and Elijah Watson; great-grandchildren, Jaydon Snowden, Elissa, and Heaven Tisdale; companion, Alberto A. Palmer; siblings, Joyce Williams (Joseph), Edith Griffin; Eunice Carey, Ernest Rutledge. Jr (Ruby); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 11am Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Viewing (walk through only) will be at 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
