Hasting Lindell Dyke, known affectionately to all as Lindell, passed away on April 2, 2026. A man of quiet wisdom and a gentle spirit, Lindell left a lasting mark on the hearts of those who knew him through his resilience, dedication to his community, and unwavering love for his family.

Born in Goode, Virginia—a place he fondly dubbed "Goode City"—Lindell’s early years were defined by a positive outlook that never wavered, even when times were hard. His childhood was filled with the simple joys of rural Virginia, from building swimming holes in the heat of summer with his cousin Ronnie to arriving early at school on winter mornings to start the woodstove, ensuring his classmates would have a warm place to learn.

As one of ten siblings, Lindell learned the value of family solidarity early on. He often shared humorous stories of his oldest brother Charles advising him to stand at the end of the line for discipline, hoping the elders would be too tired to strike hard by the time they reached him. He was a devoted older brother, literally carrying his younger brother Van on his back or in a wagon through rain and snow to ensure he was never left behind.

Lindell attended Susie G. Gibson High School in Bedford, VA and at age 18, Lindell answered the call to serve his country, spending three years stationed in Germany with the military. Upon returning home, he dedicated himself to the safety of others as a firefighter for the City of Lynchburg for more than 20 years. Even after a serious accident in the line of duty required a grueling month-long hospital recovery, his work ethic remained unshaken.

Lindell moved to New Jersey where he transitioned into the world of finance. Lindell spent over 30 years as a tax professional for H&R Block, where he took immense pride in advocating for his clients. He also shared his expertise as a tax and insurance advisor for Cenlar Capital Corporation, specializing in mortgage loans.

Lindell was a brilliant, soft-spoken man who believed in the power of few words. When he did speak, it was with a depth of knowledge and a calm, "go-with-the-flow" attitude that put everyone at ease. He found his greatest peace pursuing his passions for tennis and photography, spending all his free time on the court or behind the lens of a camera. Above all, he was at his happiest when surrounded by his family, especially the children, whose energy and playfulness mirrored his own gentle heart.

Lindell was preceded in death by: His parents, Charlie Hasting Dyke and Helen Dyke Royal, and his sisters, Jackie Carson, Georgia Scott, and Sally Bradley.

He is survived by: His devoted wife, Linda Dyke; his children, Tracy Dyke of Hayward, CA;
Aviance Dyke of Suffolk, VA; and Jonathan Dyke of Dumfries, VA; and his step-children, Chrysti Huff (Nicky) of Ewing, NJ; Carmen Bailey, and Jordan White (Destyne) of Trenton, NJ.

His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Candice, Manuel, Devann, Jahquel, Ricky, Raekwon, Kennedy, Aleem, Tuko, and Nami; and his great-grandchildren, Manuel Jr. and Dania.

He also leaves behind his siblings: Brothers Charles Dyke of Suffolk, VA; Roger Dyke (Claudia) of Edison, NJ; Henry V. Dyke (Janell) of Goode, VA; and Paul Royal (Donna) of Lynchburg, VA; and sisters Gaynell Ferris (Cleven) of Lynchburg, VA; Patty Hubbard of Dale City, VA, and Carolyn Dudley of Maitland, FL.

He will be deeply missed by his special niece and goddaughter, Ashley Tanner; his special nephew, Jermara Dyke; special cousin, Vernon Dyke; close friend Rodney Ferguson, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lindell’s life was a testament to the idea that a quiet life, lived with purpose and kindness, speaks the loudest of all.

A Memorial service will be held at 11am Friday, May 1, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Interment will be private.
