Helen M. Sherman Obituary

Helen M. Sherman was born on February 29, 1940 to the late Susie Cox and the late Earl Minnis in Altavista, VA. She was educated in the Campbell County Regional School District. At the age of 15, she and her family relocated to Trenton, NJ where she remained a longtime resident of the area.

Helen was employed by the State of New Jersey as an Assistant to the Secretary of State before retiring after many years of dedicated service.

She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton, NJ. She served as a Trustee Aide and the Ladies Guild.

Helen was a simple woman but stood firm in what she believed. Family was important to her but the beat to her heart was her grandchildren. Helen was always current on what was going on around the world. She watched the news faithfully each and every day.

On Monday, May 19, 2025, Helen slipped away into eternal rest at home. She will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved her dearly.

In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her daughter, Roslyn Sherman.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Tense Sherman and Chanda Portis; eight grandchildren: Constance, Ursula (Robert), Monique, Jordan, Epiphany, Savon, Sadiq, and Samyra; four great grandchildren; one sister, Maragret; two brothers, Wayne and Dale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. S. Howard Woodson Jr Way, Trenton, NJ 08618.
