Elder Henry Lee Johnson, 78 was born in Clarkton (Bladen County), North Carolina and was called home on May 20th.
After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in Clarkton, NC he joined the US Army where he was a Ranger in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged and coming home to family, for two years he enlisted in The US Marine where he was a Military Police Officer where he received several medals including Defense Service and Rifle Marksmen. Once he was discharged from The US Marine Corps, he joined the NYPD where he worked in the 114th Precinct. After an injury had caused him to leave that career, he attended Farmingdale College in New York City where he obtained his degree in Mortuary Science. He enjoyed freelancing with the area Funeral Chapels and soon became an Ordained Minister in 1985.
Henry was preceded in his death by his parents Hezekiah and Mae Bell (Smith) Johnson; 2 brothers Arnold Johnson and Eugene Johnson both of Clarkton NC; 1 sister Bertha Lee Johnson of Clarkton, NC; 1 daughter Barbara Johnson of Hightstown, NJ; 2 grandchildren Unique Kennebrew of Trenton, NJ and Senteria Coleman of Sebastian, FL.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one son Anthony Johnson of Hamilton, NJ; one step-daughter Veronica McAllister of Sebastian, FL; four granddaughters Tashia Turner of Mount Laurel, NJ, Azhany Martin of Trenton NJ, Ashanti Johnson of Hamilton NJ and Zipporah Coleman of Falls Twsp, PA; five grandsons Dennis (Janeke) Flowers of Falls Twsp, PA, Joel Flowers of Sebastian, FL, Naquan McAllister of Trenton, NJ, Lashun Turner of Orlando, FL and Depree Parks of Sebastian, FL; one God-son Melvin (Tanisha) Johnson; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends including his very close friend of more than 50 years Deacon Bobby Teasley of Trenton, NJ.
Elder Johnson was very passionate about spreading the word of GOD, attending Bible Study, taking photos and spending time with his son Anthony.
Funeral service will be 11am Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
