James Anthony Covington was born on October 11, 1981, in Trenton, NJ to the late James Thomas Brown and Geneva Thompson. He departed this life on Friday, September 12, 2025.
James affectionately known as "SIX EIGHT or Bud" attended elementary, middle, junior and high school here in Trenton, NJ.
James was a people person. He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He loved watching all types of sports and was a music buff. He loved attending the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn, NY, with his sister DeeDee and his nieces and nephews. He was content being around his family.
James was a faithful member of the Union Baptist Church Security team from 2022 until his untimely death.
James is survived by his loving mother, Geneva Thompson; his sisters, Cheryl Thompson-Covington, Gennie Covington-Griggs; his niece, Candice Covington-Walker; great nieces, Gabriella Patterson, Nova Patterson; nephews, Michael Covington- Walker, Miles Covington-Griggs, and Jerimiah Covington- Griggs; great nephew, Nephero-Shiloh Reid; aunts, Linda Jackson (NJ), Grace Brown (SC), Marie Brown (NJ), and Sadie Mitchell (SC); uncles, Jimmy Brown (SC), Paul Brown (SC), Dennis and Charles Brown (NJ), and a host of cousins and friends.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives who were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way he lived and the profound impact it had on the lives of those who knew him.
A Memorial service will be held at 11am Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Union Baptist Church, 301 Pennington Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
