James H. Brown, known throughout his life as “Skeet”: was born on July 9, 1958, in Trenton, and transitioned peacefully on April 9, 2025. A committed life partner, loving father, adored grandfather and man of faith who loved the Lord.
Skeet grew up in North ward and was also a member of a large family from East Trenton. He was educated in the Trenton Public School System attended Junior High School #1 and Trenton Central High School where he excelled in track and field.
Skeet had a diverse career. He spent many years in the food retail industry before joining the Trenton Public Library working at the Main and Briggs branches. He was also an experienced chef. Upon his retirement he put his culinary skills to work at numerous restaurants in the Trenton area. Skeet was often sought out for private services to prepare his specialty dishes for events, gatherings and special occasions.
Skeet was cool, humble, kind and loyal. He was the right-hand man and the best friend of his late Brother Jeffrey P. “Jet” Brown. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he loved to watch Sci-Fi movies, play his electronic games and engage in conversations about delicious meals and recipes. Skeet’s most favorite pastime that brought him the joy was being with his grandchildren that he cherished and who affectionately called him “Pop-Pop”.
As a man of faith, Skeet received the call to salvation and surrendered his life to Christ at New Life Christian Center many years ago. He was committed to reading his bible and sharing daily affirmations. He consistently stood firm on his faith despite any health challenges he faced. Skeet would always be emotionally charged when witnessing about how good God had been to him and how grateful he was for having the opportunity to share his faith with his grandchildren and pray with them.
Predeceased by his mother, Christine Henderson, Father, James Brown Sr, and brother Jeffrey Brown, His memory will be cherished by his partner of over four decades, Valeri Williams, daughters, Janelle and Janeese Fuller and Tiffany and Tianna (Warren) Williams. Ten Granddaughters; Anye', Arianna, Taylor Aaliyah, Aniyah, Ahnye' & Aaliyah, Denise, Jabria and Breiona and eight Grandsons; Mikel, Tylor, Amin & Amir, John Nifeese, Shamar and Ezekiel. A Beloved Sister Patricia E. Jordan who he helped raise and nicknamed philosopher and Sisters Cheryl Haigler, Patty Brown-Crump and Patricia Brown. Skeet will also be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends,
A service to celebrate Skeet’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave Trenton, NJ 08618. Viewing at 1:00 PM until service.
