Janet Marie Bridgewater was born in Trenton, New Jersey on June 4, 1925, to the late James and Ethel Byard. She was educated in the Trenton Public Schools and graduated from Trenton Central High School. She lived in Trenton for many years before making Ewing Township her home in 1980.
Janet worked in various positions during her lifetime, including roles in the Food Service Department at Mercer County Community College, Quaker Curtains in Ewing, and, most recently, at the Senior Center in Hopewell, where she retired after many years of devoted service.
In 1946, Janet married Leo I. Bridgewater, beginning a life rooted in love, commitment, and family; and the proud couple birth six children-Linda, Kenneth, Dennis, Gary, Terry, and Sandra. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom bring her tremendous joy and pride.
Janet was passionate about travel, devoted to her family, and known for her warmth. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the NY Yankees, San Francisco 49ers, and Philadelphia 76ers.
On April 16, 2026, at the glorious age of 100, Janet peacefully passed away at home. She will be deeply cherished by her family and admired by friends, neighbors, and all who have had the privilege of knowing her. Her life stands as a true example of strength, kindness, and love.
In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband, Leo I. Bridgewater; a son, Kenneth W. Bridgewater; and great grandson, Johnathan M. Watkins III.
She leaves behind to carry her legacy: her five children, Linda G. Harmon, Dennis K. Bridgewater, Garry N. Bridgewater, Terry L. Bridgewater-Melvin (Thomas), and Sondra D. Grey; Grandchildren: Donielle, Michael, Leo (Lashona), Lashaunda, Kevin (Ja'Nelle), Andre, Shira (Akey), Courtney, Mary, DJ, Devin, Candice (Daniel), Daven, and Karl; 30 great grandchildren; and a host of great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
