Jesse Fields Jr. Obituary

Jesse Fields Jr., affectionately known as "Phil," passed away on April 18, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 14, 1942, in Smithville, Georgia, to the late Jesse Fields, Sr. and the late Annie Bell Fields, he lived a life marked by service, generosity, and an unwavering love for the people around him.

After graduating from high school, where he demonstrated a remarkable mastery of mathematics, history, and spelling, Jesse enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with distinction, earning an honorable discharge. His dedication to service continued throughout his civilian career. He retired as a Manager from the United States Postal Service in Princeton, New Jersey, and later retired as a bus driver from Anderson Electric City Transit, where he could indulge his love of interacting with people every single day.

Jesse was a proud Mason at the 32nd Degree Level, an achievement that reflected his commitment to brotherhood, integrity, and community. He was also an excellent chef whose homemade barbecue sauce, ribs, potato salad, western omelets, and French toast were legendary among family and friends. He enjoyed football, basketball, reading, and watching television, but his greatest joy was simply spending time with the people he loved.

Jesse never hesitated when someone was in need. He was, by all accounts, the best husband, father, grandfather, and friend anyone could ask for.

A devoted member of Generostee Baptist Church in Starr, South Carolina, Jesse's deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ guided every aspect of his life. He trusted in God's grace through all seasons, and his family finds comfort knowing he now rests in the arms of his Lord and Savior. Thank God for everything.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Rufus Keys; his mother-in-law, Mary Keys; his nephew Stewart Grey and his brother-in-law, Michael Keys, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Gloria Fields of Anderson, South Carolina; his daughters, Tameka Greene (Bilal) and Ashley Fields Fluellen (David); Edward Greene (Bouchra); eight grandchildren, Isaiah, Taylor, Amina, Niyana, Adam, Yunis, Kassidy, and Aaron; his sister, Ann Grey; his brother, Jacob Fields (Anna); three sisters-in-law, Diane Williams (Roy), Mary Styles, and Darlene Winfield (Maurice); a devoted friend, Byron Brownlee; and a host of other relatives and friends.

On behalf of the family, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for all your prayers, concerns, kindness, and thoughtfulness. They are truly appreciated. Jesse Fields Jr. will be deeply and truly missed.
