Jimmy L. Leonard, 88, of Trenton, New Jersey, departed his life on February 16, 2026 at Serenity Hospice Inpatient Unit. Jimmy was born July 20, 1937 to the late Clyde and Queen Victoria Leonard in Louisburg, North Carolina.
Jimmy, affectionately known as "Jimma" by some of his family. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was Baptized at Nelson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Louisburg, North Carolina. Jimmy spent most of his childhood in Louisburg and was educated in the Louisburgh Public School System. He worked a majority of his adult life driving trucks.
April 12, 1959, Jimmy married the love of his life, Deloris and he immediately stepped up into fatherhood by accepting her four children (Arvetta, Wayne, Michael and Jacqueline), as his own. They were later blessed with the births of their two daughters Cynthia and Belinda. Jimmy was known as a hard worker and provider for his family. He also enjoyed family time. While raising their children, on weekends, he often piled them in the car and traveled to visit out of town family, parks, museums or to sporting events. After raising their children, they became avid mobile home travelers, traveling all across the USA for years. At 85 years of age, Jimmy found out he had another adult son, H. James (Jim), who was immediately embraced by the rest of the family.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde & Queen Victoria; brothers James C., John, Percy and Joseph Leonard; sisters Rita Dawkins, Sallie Mae Green, Willa Johnson and Dora Leonard; and grandson Ronald.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of more than 66 years, Deloris R. Leonard; Seven children: Arvetta Mann, Wayne Winckler (Barbara), Michael Winckler, Jacqueline Anderson, Cynthia Victoria Bland, Belinda Leonard-Judd (Michael) and H. James Weidlich (Juliet); twenty-five grandchildren, several great grands and one great-great grandbaby; Four sisters: Annie Billips (Louis), Elizabeth Watson (Claude), Martha Washington, Ellen Roberts (Burnell); Two brothers: Alvin and William Leonard; special niece Barbara Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 11am Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Change Church, 200 Ludlow Dr., Ewing, NJ 08638. Calling hour will be 10am until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
