John T. Brown

John Thomas Brown (76), better known as JT, was born on December 30, 1944 in Roxboro, North Carolina to the late Thomas and Margie Brown. He departed this life peacefully on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

John received his education from the Person County School District in Roxboro and was a graduate of the class of 1963. After graduation, he relocated to Spring Valley, NY where he was employed at the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. He worked on the children’s ward for three years, offering support to those who needed it.

With a great passion for driving, John moved to Newark, NJ where he gained employment with the New Jersey Transit Authority as a bus driver. He was employed for thirty-one years until his retirement. He lived out the rest of his life in Ewing, NJ.

John was a member of Grove Baptist Church in Roxboro, North Carolina.

John is predeceased by his son, Maurice.

John leaves to cherish his memories; his loving friend and wife, Juanita Brown; children Maria Hunter, Tasha, Khadijah, Najia and Cheyanne ; one brother – Gene Autry Brown (Wendy), Roxboro, NJ; four sisters – Veolia Sisco (Russell), Spring Valley, NY; Naydean Winfield, Surry, VA; Aldean Mason, Roxboro, NC; Valda Brown-Graham, Kingstree, SC; three brothers-in -law – Larry Gumbs (Yorie), Rancho Cordova, CA; Marvin Gumbs (Diana), Pleasantville, NJ; Chris Gumbs (Wanda), Alexandria, VA; one sister-in-law – Iris Heyward, Summerville, SC; one aunt – Missouri Bradsher, Roxboro, NC; two special nieces Valerie and Atiana; three special nephews – Gene Christopher, Russell Jr. and Brian; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.

Services will be 11am Friday, April 2, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 10am until the time of services. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
