Joseph Porter Jr.

Joseph Porter Jr. was born on May 10, 1934, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Joseph Porter Sr. and Louise (Walker) Porter. He was their only child. Joseph was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended the Atlanta Public School System and graduated high school in 1952.

In 1956, Joseph was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War era. He began basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, continued training in Georgia, and was later stationed overseas in England and Germany for approximately 15 months. Upon returning to the United States, he was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he served as a Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged from the Army.

Joseph later settled in New Jersey and dedicated many years of service as a valued employee at Reedman Motors, from which he eventually retired. He was also a proud and active member of the Masonic Lodge.

In 1959, Joseph married Jean (Jennifer) Brooks. Together, they shared many years and were blessed with eight children. He later married Vivian Sapps in 1992.

He was predeceased by his parents Joseph Porter Sr. and Louise (Walker) Porter; his son Tyrone Porter; his wives Jean Brooks and Vivian Sapps.

Joseph was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his children Norman Brooks, Antonio Porter (Kim), Gary Porter, Robert Porter, Joseph Porter (Michelle), Jonathan Porter (Kimberly) and Leconte Porter; his grandchildren Pierre Smith, Norman Brooks Jr., Antoine Porter (Laurie(), Whitney Porter, Tyeesha Porter, Shaquana Black, Ebonie Porter, Joauni Porter, Jonathan Porter, and Sabiah Duncan; great grandchildren Akeelah and Parker Porter. his sister-in-law, Rose Kelly; along with many extended family members, loved ones and friends.

Joseph will be remembered for his strength, service, dedication to family, and the life lessons he passed down through generations. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.

Funeral service will be 1pm Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 735 E. State St., Trenton, NJ 08609. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of service at the church. Interment will be 10:30am Monday, February 2, 2026 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
