Joseph Teel Jr. Obituary


Joseph Teel, Jr., 71, of Trenton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2023. He was born on April 23, 1952 to the late Lucy and Joseph Teel, Sr. Joseph was baptized at the Church of Christ in Trenton, New Jersey, and enjoyed reading the daily scripture. "Joey," as he was called by his loved ones, was a graduate of Trenton Central High School's Class of 1970, and is remembered for his outstanding athletic contributions. He worked for the State of New Jersey's Department of Transportation and the CV Hills Acme Rubber Drove before retiring.

Joey volunteered at Trinity Episcpal Cathedral in Trenton, New Jersey, and as an election day poll worker. He enjoyed western, karate and action television programs; spending Sundays barbecuing, playing cards and watching sports with his son, brothers and nephews; family gatherings; music, especially rock-and-roll and Stevie Wonder; and was a lifelong sports enthusiast who loved the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is loved beyond measure and will be missed by his children Bryan C. Teel and Alescia Marie Teel. He was predeceased by his eldest daughter Yemonja Williams. Joey was a proud grandfather of seven and great grandfather of four. His memory will forever be cherished by his life companion, Nancy Ann Pippa. Joey also is survived by his uncles, William "Butch" (Dorothy) Leonard of Blackwood, New Jersey; David (Idallia) Leonard and Ronald (Gwendolyn) Leonard of Trenton, New Jersey; Oscar (Hilda) Teel of San Diego, California and his aunts Mary Bowie-McClain and Geraldine Teel of Trenton, New Jersey.

Joey was the eldest of his parents' 13 children and is survived by five brothers, James Teel, Russell (Annie) Teel and Keith (Dorothy) Teel and Christopher Teel of Trenton, New Jersey; Anthony (Diane) Teel of Willingboro, New Jersey; and four sisters, Cheryl Keese, Pamela Smith-Teel (William), and Nicole Teel also of Willingboro, New Jersey and Charisse Teel of Burlington, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy and Joe Teel; wife Cecelia Teel; brothers Timothy Teel and Brian (Taza) Teel and sister Roberta Teel; his daughter and son-in-law Yemonja and Ed Williams; granddaughter Ebony Teel; and daughter-in-law Beatrice Teel. He will be deeply missed by a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held on Friday, December 1 at Shiloh Baptist Church at 340 Calhoun Street in Trenton, New Jersey. The viewing will begin at 11 a.m. with services at 1 p.m. and interment immediately following at the Ewing Cemetery. Evangelist Joseph Leonard will officiate the services.
