Juanita Hunter-Brown Obituary

Juanita Dudley Hunter-Brown was born September 2, 1946(Labor Day) in Newark, NJ to the late Mr. William Garrett and Lenora Dudley. She transitioned to her new home in heaven on April 2, 2021.

Juanita gave her life to the Lord at an early age and was baptized in Holiness Faith, located in Cliffwood, NJ by Ms. Evangelist Dupree.

She received her education in the Matawan Regional School District, graduating from the historical Matawan Regional High School located on Broad St., in Matawan, NJ. Juanita went on to graduate from Secretarial School.

Soon thereafter, Juanita gained employment at the Fort Monmouth Military Base. She was also as a daycare worker and along with her sisters, Barbara and Iris, did housekeeping jobs during their early teenage years.

Juanita married Benjamin Hunter Sr., and moved to Compton, CA where she worked as a secretary for her maternal uncle, Mr. Innis Dudley. They later welcomed the birth of their child, Benjamin Hunter, Jr. It was after his birth that she continued her employment endeavors as a hair stylist.

Many years later, after her divorce from Mr. Benjamin Hunter, Juanita married her longtime love, Mr. John Thomas (JT) Brown, from which this union brought forth a son, Master Maurice Hunter.

Juanita’s final employment endeavor was that of a physical rehabilitation nurse where she was promoted to Manager over various regions in New Jersey. Her hard work was rewarded with many awards and accolades.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, John Thomas Brown, her son, Maurice Hunter, and sisters, Barbara Dudley and Janis Garrett as well as her parents.

Juanita was known and loved by many associates, friends and neighbors. May the Lord Jesus Christ comfort us in our great loss. Our hearts go out to all the friends, family and neighbors that have come to show their love toward us today.

Juanita leaves to cherish her memories: children, Maria Hunter; Cynthia Washington, Old Bridge, NJ; brothers Larry Gumbs (Yorie), Sacramento, CA; Marvin Gumbs (Diana), Pleasantville, NJ, and Elder Christopher Gumbs (Wanda), Springfield, VA; sister, Iris L.
