Kayla Sonya Burnett Obituary

Kayla Sonya Burnett was born on June 15, 2001, to Shawn Burnett and Kakeya Floyd, in Bristol, PA at Lower Bucks Medical Center. She transitioned from life to eternity on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Capital Health Helene Fuld, surrounded by her family.

Kayla graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2019 and received her BA in Business Administration from Centenary University in 2024. She pursued her interest in sports at a very early age, beginning with gymnastics at the age of three and flag football at the age of seven. Her love for basketball was initiated as she played for various Ewing recreational teams, including Ewing Rec, Ewing Ballers, and the AAU Travel Team. Kayla played for Fisher Middle School and in high school and college, she continued to set records as point guard. At Notre Dame High School she was a starter on the varsity team for all four years. Kayla was a standout freshman guard for the Centenary University Cyclones Women’s Basketball Team during the 2019-2020 season. She led the team with 67 assists during her rookie campaign. She set a record for single-game assists with 15 in a game against Rosemont on January 22, 2020. She was also a coach for Antheil Elementary School basketball for second graders.

Kayla was baptized in 2013 and joined the First Baptist Church of Eggerts Crossing. Her most recent employment responsibilities included taking care of those who were unable to care for themselves. She was a very kind and caring person, and a compassionate listener to those she encountered. Kayla loved travelling, spending time with friends, and making everyone laugh. She is often described as fun-loving, caring and highly energetic. She had an infectious spirit that had the power to light up every room she entered. Her favorite phrase was “GTM” (Get the Money!).

She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother Sonya Floyd Sanders, maternal grandfather Donnell Sanders, Sr., paternal great grandparents William and Shirley Burnett.

She is survived by her parents Shawn Burnett and Kakeya Floyd, step parents Janet Burnett, Marlin Blackwell, three sisters, Malia Burnett, Jasmine Murrill, Julianna Murrill, one brother Trey Murrill (Jennifer), two step-brothers, a special niece Arianna Croom, a maternal grandfather, five paternal grandparents, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
