Leslie Steward Obituary

 
Our beloved Leslie Colleen Steward was born April 30, 1960, at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton, NJ. She departed this life on Thursday, September 29,2022, surrounded by family and friends.at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Trenton, NJ. 
 
Born to Willie and Emma Gray Steward, Leslie was one of seven children. She was educated in the Trenton Public School System, having attended Junior 3 School and Daylight-Twilight High School where she earned her High School Diploma. She furthered her education at Care For You Plus, in Lawrenceville, NJ, and was awarded a certification as a Home Health Aide. Leslie grew up in Trenton, NJ where she later built a life for her and her daughter, Tiania, whom she loved so much. She also lived in both in Newark, NJ and New Brunswick, NJ, although she alwayremained rooted in her hometown. Leslie was a very hard worker and enjoyed caring for others. She was a Home Health Aide at Synergy Home Healthcare, Trenton, NJ, and ComForCare of Ewing, NJ. She was also a cook at Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, NJ, Carnegie Center, Princeton, NJ and Heavenly Ham in Lawrenceville, NJ. 
 
Leslie was a very spiritual person as well. In her early years she moved Newark, NJ where she joined the Nation of Islam and frequented the Mosque. She later attended the University Heights SDA Church Somerset, NJ. Leslie was a woman of many talents. In the early 1980's s: modeled at Quakerbridge Mall, Lawrenceville, NJ. She also attend cosmetology school. To her last day, she had continued to enjoy fashion. Leslie was a strong and beautiful woman who had a heart of gold. H spirit and beautiful smile would brighten any room she stepped in! Les carried herself as a Queen and had a "no-nonsense" attitude. Letting it known that she was not one to be played with! Her family and friend knew of her strong personality and that she would share her opinion without any solicitation or hesitation. They also knew that they could count on her to offer love, encouragement, support and good advice whenever seeking her help. She gave the best hugs and was a great cook, ready make her potato salad at a moment's notice. Leslie loved to dote on her family and enjoyed spending quality time with all of them, especially her great-nephew Kameron and partner of 45 years, Mark Bennet. She a enjoyed fellowshipping, playing cards, collecting black art, listening Club Music, dancing and so much more! 

Leslie is predeceased by her parents: Willie and Emma Gray Steward, two brothers: David and Charles Steward, Sister, Gwendolyn Glover, two grandsons; Maiere and Kahdin Williams, Godfather, Daniel Weeks, Godsister, Stephanie Weeks and aunts; Nany Murray and Dorothy Hayward Johnson. 

Leslie leaves to cherish her memory, her only beloved child: Tiania Steward (Ronald), Hamilton, NJ, a grandson, Amir Williams, Hamilton, NJ, her loving partner, Mark Bennet, New Trenton, NJ, Godmother Geraldine Brooks, NJ, sister, Addie Roberts of Clarksville, V A, brothers; Tommie Steward of Clarksville, VA and Henry Steward of Landover, MD, Godsisters; Rochelle Long, Trenton, NJ, Kim Weeks NJ, and Donna Weeks-Natson, Trenton, NJ, Aunt: Virgie Murray of Clarksville, V A., Nieces; Dorothy Roberts, Glenda Smalls, Theresa Mosely (Darryl) all of Clarksville VA, Takiea Williams - Ewan (Paul), Willingboro, NJ, Tashica Williams, Charlene Williams and Charlane Williams-Hendley (Julian) of Chester, VA, nephews; Jermor Simmons of St. Petersburg, FL and Emmanuel Baldwin of Bristol, P A, two special Aunts; Juanita Palmer and Effie Richardson (Robert) both of Somerset, NJ, special cousins Cybil Carter, Trenton, NJ, Veronica Gardner, Berlin, NJ, her "Special Boys"; Calvin Hill and Eric Barclay both of Somerset, NJ and Cliffard Harris (also her Godson) and Dayyan Everett, both of Columbus, NJ, special niece, Tessaneka Hill-Everett, Columbus, NJ, her entire extended Palmer" Kidd, Scott and Lee families, and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and close friends. 

Leslie will truly be missed! Her legacy will be carried on through the many family and friends she has so positively impacted. May the beauty of her life continue on in all of our memories. 

 

Funeral service will be 1pm Friday, October 14, 2022 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 11am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
