Lynell "Squeaky" Pettigrew Jr., 63, went home to the glories of heaven, where his soul can rest in peace. Lynell was born May 17,1960 to the union of the late Lynell Pettigrew Sr. and Roberta (Carter) Gerald, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Lynell moved to Trenton, New Jersey in 1963. At a very young age he became an avid sports player with a very adventurous personality. He began playing in the Little League on the Starr Bus Team at the West End. Later to play for the PAL League on the Phillies team. At Jr. #3 he participated in football, baseball, swimming and soccer. During high school he became one of the best baseball players to ever play in Trenton. An outstanding player on Trenton Central High Schools Team. Lynell graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1978. In his senior year he was recruited to the Cincinnati Reds Division Farm. Team Scouts from the St. Louis Cardinals and NY Mets also expressed interest.
Eventually Lynell went on to work for New Jersey Bell Telephone, TRANE and Penske.
Lynell leaves to cherish in his memories, his mother, Roberta Gerald, Trenton, NJ; Four children, Lynell Merrick of Bear, De, William Merrick (Camia) of Elkton, MD. Isiah Nichols of PA and Veronique Pettigrew of Trenton, New Jersey; Two sisters, Deborah Washington of Marion, IN and Dessie Pettigrew of Raleigh, NC: Two brothers Marvin Pettigrew (Erica) of Bordentown, NJ and James Geraid Jr. of Trenton, NJ; One grandchild Zuri Sanai Merrick of Elkton, Maryland, and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Lynell was preceded in death by his parents, Lyneil Pettigrew Sr. and James Gerald Sr. Also, his brother Leonard "Nobby" Pettigrew.
Funeral service will be 1pm Friday, November 10, 2023 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of service. Interment will be at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing, NJ.
