1937-2020
Elder Malachi Smith Jr. was born on October 1,937 to the later Malachi Smith Sr., and Martha Ferrell Smith. At the glorious age of 82 Malachi slip away into eternal rest on Friday September 25, at home. Born in Valdosta Malachi was educated in the St Augustine Fla. school system.
As a young adult Malachi and his family moved to Trenton New Jer- sey .Where he met his wife Ella Marie Baylor. They joined in Holy Matrimony and to this union was born (5) children. Carolyn, Antony, Martha, Violet, and Juanita.
For 5 to 7 years he drove for American Sugar Refining Co. Later he joined local 369 / 595 and became a laborer where he retired in 2002.
As Malachi journeyed through this thing called life he discovered some not so good things and he realized that it was more to life and he wanted to see it. Malachi was invited to go to church by his sister Lucille in Lambertville in the early 1980's and there he received the Lord as his personal savior and he.
joined the Mt. Ebenezer D.H.C under the leadership of Bishop Margaret Payton.
He was a faithful member and enjoyed playing the keyboard, singing, helping out wherever he could. In the mid 80's Malachi was ordained a con and was faithful. In 2004 Malachi felt the need to leave Mt. Ebenezer joined Mt. Nebo Glorious Tabernacle under the leadership of his son in Apostle Preston L. Scott and there he continued to be the musician, deacon, elder, and head of the trustee committee.
Elder Smith was a loving and affectionate man. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. He was just down to earth and he knew how to make you smile or laugh in the middle of a bad day. Elder Smith enjoyed life to the fullest he always said" you only have one life to live, so live it". Elder Smith enjoyed going to church if you wanted him you knew where to find church playing the keyboard, Dunkin Donuts, or Burger King they were favorite spots.
Elder Smith taught and gave everyone he ran across great wisdom -- oh don't let him fool you he was a man of great knowledge and wisdom and every tin you had a conversation with him he will not close or leave the conversation without talking about God. He was a preacher alright ,but his preaching wasn't in the pulpit it was wherever he saw you.
We thank God for all the time he gave us with our Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin. Our Elder Smith was known to many as dad, brother, uncle jr., uncle frog, uncle Malachi, pop pop, gramps, grandpa, and we dear not forget Jr. Brown and the all-stars.
In addition to his parents Malachi was predeceased by his wife Ella Marie, I siblings (4) brothers, Lawrence, Manatee, Joe Nathan, and David; (6) sisters Fanlou, Dorothy, Martha, Lucille, Liza Marie ,and Gwen. His daughter Carolyn, and grandson Anthony Tirado.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories (8) children; Pastor Anthony/Cr Pastor Myriam Chambersburg, Pa., Overseer Martha,! Apostle Preston, Trenton, NJ, Violet/Michael, and Juanita of Ewing NJ, Miriam, Malachi/Esha, Matthew/Wenslynn, and Daniel all of Trenton, NJ. A very special friend Mary Smith Howard of Palaka Fla. Grandsons Khi (Boo )/Charlene, Terence

Services will be 11am Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Gethsemane Tabernacle Church UHC, 421 W. State St., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 9-11am at the church until time of services. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
