Marie Finney was born on Saturday, April 6, 1963 to the late George W. Sr and Grace Saunders and she peacefully passed away into eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Graduate Post Acute in Philadelphia, PA. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, and laughter in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A lifelong resident of Trenton, New Jersey spending most of those years on Murray Street and Jarvis Place. A proud graduate of Trenton Central High school class of 1979. Marie took great pride in all of her accomplishments throughout the years. Marie was the Matriarch of the Saunders family in her own right. At an early age, Marie joined Mount Calvary United Holy Church. Her journey included two years at Wendy's, ten years at Skillman, four years at Homasote Company, and three years at Penn Linen. Ultimately, she found her true career path and retired from the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles after 25 years of dedicated service.
Marie found joy in the simple things that made life special. She loved shopping, gardening, cooking, and spending precious time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed treasure hunting while thrifting, late-night Tubi movie marathons, crossword puzzles that kept her mind sharp, and chasing the dream of hitting it big on her scratch-offs. She and her sisters also shared many unforgettable adventures "dumpster diving," always turning an ordinary day into laughter and memories. Marie was known for keeping life interesting. She never hesitated to speak her mind, had a sense of humor that could light up any room, and was famous for her perfectly timed fart jokes- and sometimes perfectly timed farts. She also had the special gift of knowing everybody's business before they did, making her a true professional gossiper. Above all, Marie brought laughter, love, and personality wherever she went, and that is how she will always be remembered.
Marie was preceded in death by her father George W. Sr., her mother, Grace Saunders and her Dad/Pop, Ralph Cauithan; her brothers, Joseph and Timothy Saunders, her sister, Josephine Ellis, her niece, Markita Saunders, her fur baby, Nickles.
Marie leaves to honor her memories, her husband, Billy Finney. To carry on her legacy, she leaves her children, James Saunders (Siobhan), Jamar Saunders (Ruth), Lakeisha Finney; her brothers, George (Lori) Saunders, Gerald (Sondra) Saunders, Anthony (Sonya) Saunders and Bobby Johnson; her sisters, Christina Saunders (Yusuf El-Amin), Bonita Myers, Sister-in-Law, Jacqueline Saunders; godsister, Odessa Marinnie. Her grandchildren, Daquan (Brielle), DeAvion, Beyshawn, Zaire, Naquan, Kai and A'Zihya; her great-grandchildren, Elijah, Dream and Jasai, goddaughter, Dameeka "Meka" Glanton, godsons, Hakeem Ellis and Marion Ellis Baldwin, bonus sons, Beyshan Brown, Sr., Darryl Parkman and Ernest Aaron and Girlfriend, her French Bulldog.
Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be private.
