Marilyn Jean Robbins-Council was born to the late Thomas Robbins, Sr. and Lula Robbins on July 27,1944, in Atlantic City, NJ. On Wednesday, May 11,2022, she departed this life at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ.
At an early age, Marilyn moved to Trenton, NJ, where she remained a lifelong resident of the area. She was educated in the Trenton Public School System.
Early in her life, Marilyn worked as a beautician, where she became a businesswoman. Her portfolio of businesses included a hair salon, Council Fuel Oil, Council's Janitorial and Trucking, Council's Demolition, five bars (The Coco, The Nite Life, Broadway Lounge, Thunderbird and Horseshoe), three delis (Jean and Sam's Deli, Lincoln Deli, Council's Deli). She also co-owned multiple rental properties throughout the county along with owning a horseback riding stable. Later in life, Marilyn worked for various jobs as a home health aide and at a dry-cleaning business and did volunteer work.
Marilyn was a faithful member at New Bethel Holy Church in Ewing, NJ. She was a prayer warrior. She served as a Deaconess and Missionary.
Marilyn's hobbies and enjoyments in her life were being with her grandchildren, going to the beach in Atlantic City, traveling, fishing, attending church events and workshops, singing, fashion, family functions and gatherings. Marilyn absolutely loves her family.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by two children, Keith Council and Glenn Randall; and five siblings, Selma Robbins, Thomas (George) Robbins, Jr., Dolores (Della) Bryant, Kenneth Robbins, and Larry Robbins.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Samuel Council Jr. (Girlfriend Joanne See) of Haddonfield, NJ, Omar Council (Girlfriend Taquana Tarver) of Trenton, NJ, and Cedric Council of Trenton, NJ; seven grandchildren, Tatiana Council, Samuel Council III, Tyleer Randall, Kayla Jackson, Omauri Council, Cedric Gurley, and Jahlyah Council; two great grandchildren, Noah Mack and Quaadir Council; special nieces and nephews, Denise Robbins-Conaway, Cynthia Colebut, Kevin Robbins, Drusilla Robbins, Arnold Robbins, Mark Sutton, Diane Hargis, Latunde Robbins, Harold Ayers, and Arnisia Brown; special cousins, Jaunita Marshall, Evelyn Black, Lillie Nowell, Sonya Black, and Loretta Sparrow; special friends, Jean Church, Rita Council, Hope Rogers and the Council family; and a host of many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends especially her church family.
Marilyn leaves a legacy of faith, perseverance, loyalty and strength. She fought a good fight. The Robbins and Council family will miss her .
Funeral service will be 1pm Monday, May 23, 2022 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 150 N. Clinton Ave., Trenton NJ 08609. Calling hours will be 11am until the time of service. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home.
