Marion K. Melvin

Our beloved Marion K. Melvin peacefully transitioned on June 11, 2026, at Helen Fuld Hospital.

On May 20, 1957, Albert Ogburn and Dorothy Hooten were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Marion, in Butler, Georgia. She attended and graduated from Taylor County Girls School in 1976.

At the age of 19, Marion relocated to Trenton, New Jersey, where she began her first job with Trenton Window Cleaners. In 1983, she married the love of her life, George H. Melvin Sr. From this union, they were blessed with two precious children, Georgie Melvin and Marion C. Melvin.

As their love for one another grew, so did their faith in the Lord. Together they became devoted members of Trenton Church of Christ, where Marion faithfully worshipped for many years.

Marion later worked for the State of New Jersey at the Justice Complex and the Division of Taxation. Her compassionate nature and deep love for children inspired her to pursue a new career in childcare. She became a Teacher's Aide at Mill Hill Day Care Center, where she lovingly served and nurtured children for more than 20 years before retiring.

Marion enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending church services, dining out, talking on the phone, and listening to music. However, the greatest joy of her life was spending time with her beloved grandchildren, Gianna and Joshua. She cherished every moment with them, and they will forever hold her love in their hearts and memories.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Ogburn and Dorothy Hooten; her husband, George H. Melvin Sr.; her sister, Charlotte Harris; her nephew, Rod Simmons; her stepdaughter, Phyllis Jenkins; her aunts, Bell Gray, Netherrine Alburn Riley, Evel Kelley, Ella Louise, Francis Hooten, and Joyce Hooten; and her uncles, Wallaman, Bubba, Joe, and Alonzo Hooten.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Georgie Melvin and Marion C. Melvin; her stepson, Tracey Tanner; her grandchildren, Gianna Melvin, Joshua Melvin-Jackson, and Najah Merritt; her siblings, Linda Corvin, Wayne Ogburn (Annette), and Earl Ogburn; her aunt, Gladys Hooten; her nieces, Victoria Phillips, Myrda Outley (Darin), Stephanie Carter, Maja Ogburn, Ashley Ogburn, and Sandra Russell; her nephew, Richard Ogburn; her cousin, Bebe Hooten; and a host of other relatives, friends, nieces, and nephews.

Marion's kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family will be treasured forever. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be 1pm Friday, June 26, 2026 at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hour will be 12pm until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
